Unfortunately I will be going to Greece for the next week and won't be able to upload any new videos till after.
I have scheduled the last 2 remaining super cuts, but the continuation of cut content will unfortunately be on hold until I get back.
Sorry I couldn't fully catch up :( I'll make it up when I'm back!

So why the fuck does Ainz think it's a good idea to genocide everyone in the kingdom. Like how does it actually help to kill every single person or at least most of them. I understand his guardians needing to gain more strategic experience but total annihilation isn't needed at all, he also just showed the world that if one random fucking person decides to piss him off then whatever country that person is from will just be killed. I agreed with his carrot and stick approach but he's gone and nuked the god damn carrot and the most reasonable thing that will happen is that literally every other nation will gang up on and prepare counters for what seen. Even if Ainz tries to convince them to surrender then they'll just point to the Kingdom both because they didn't accept their surrender and that he'll just come for them later, he lost all barging power and now has to use that damn precious stick he thought would be oh so great to use on the kingdom.

Sorry for the rant it just really seems that a lot of people are just glossing over the fact that historically, rulers who do the shit Ainz did, always get fucked by it because such a strategy does not work period, and that there's no genuine reason for him to do it other than him not wanting to upset the floor guardians who are wanting to massacre. It's good to keep those with power on your side but a ruler needs to keep them following his lead otherwise even worse shit will happen then a Rebellion, hell one could happen because of this! I love the anime but Ainz just really is fucking up big time with his latest plays which he'll pay deeply for one day

Nothing justifies the destruction of an entire kingdom.
The anonymous slaughter of the entire upper class would have been far more efficient.
10,000 years of foresight is useless if you don't cast the spell every single day to see how each new political decision you make will ripple through time.
The butterfly effect is uncontrollable unless watched constantly.
Otherwise the moment he changed his course he drastically changed the events he had already foreseen.
Soooo I'm wondering if they actually talk to smart people when writing smart characters.
I also have a huge problem with Ainz being entirely aware he would lose his humany and still not attempting to safeguard it in any capacity and instead being influenced by the lesser demons who served below him.
What a sad excuse for the destruction of a kingdom and I refuse to call him an overlord.
More like the master of overlooking important factors in how time and knowing the future would work.
Step 1 you learn of an event.
Step 2 foresight
Step 3 act on foresight
Step 4..... should have been another foresight to observe the effects of the change as they slowly moved across the world's social networks.
And Ainz has no excuse, not even the one that he wasn't actually a very smart human before.
His race is essentially the equivalent of an Eldritch Lich King. Mental stats can be improved in Overlord.
The final reason he had no excuses.
His own race absorbed knowledge and had something akin to keen mind.
He was a knowledge sponge.
He reads a book it's in his head forever. He hears a conversation he can recall it. He studies an arcane formula once and he's memorized it. And he even identifies pretty much every spell on sight that others cast even when they are performed in unique ways he isn't familiar with.
He will be the reason the entire world wants to destroy his nation.
In the end his people will suffer for his leadership in a like way to how the people of the kingdom were made to suffer for the shortcomings of their government.
The story of Ainz is quite simply the tragic flailing efforts of a once human man who thought he could suppress the innately evil nature of his undead race with nothing more than mental fortitude.
He fails as he is slowly converted to darker and darker ideas through the gradual influence of his only companions which happen to be a family of lesser and greater demons.
Anyone who thinks Ainz is somehow the lesser evil doesn't understand politics or simply justified the many genocides that he ordered his demons to commit.
Ainz is the pinnacle of Lawful Evil in Overlord and he stopped being good in probably the first half of the first season.
He barely tried.

Huh. I thought according to the anime, it was initially to market his Kingdom of Nazareth in the hopes that it would attract any potential friends from his IRL world as he hoped they were few who may be trapped. But that’s impossible as the answer is seen in the first 2 minutes of episode 1.

Honestly this entire video could have been summed up by saying the words "Anime logic man." I don't mean this as an insult to the video creator I think his thoughts were well organized and presented. My frustration is with the Overlord creators content, reasoning and story telling in general. Throughout Overlord the consistent weak character of Ainz has grown to the point where I actually despise him. The height of my dislike for him was reached at this point in the story. Honestly, a ruler who has complete control over his subjects, as evidenced by their constant fawning over him, would never need to explain himself. His whim would be all the justification needed to forgo mass genocide which is what this was. Him worrying about how his underlings would react to such a whim exacerbates how weak he is. The genocide of this Kingdom made Overlord uncomfortable to read or watch as an empathetic person but it's an uncomfortable reality in many manga/anime story arcs for absolutely no mercy and complete genocide of the opposition. It's a disturbing character flaw that is accepted in many Asian cultures possibly due to strong historic roots in warrior society? I call this a character flaw because the total annihilation of a race, a culture, a foe is of course, an unacceptable outcome even if they are the aggressor. You can defeat an enemy and take away their ability of being a threat without complete annihilation of them, including non combatants, elderly and children. This is a disturbing course of logic that's shared in many manga/anime storylines. Yet ironically many of those very stories begin with themselves being the victim of such cruelty before they manage to heroically fight back. All while pointing out how wrong it was to be targeted in such a way but then flip to them then being the faction commiting the genocide with no acknowledgment of the hypocrisy demonstrated in the flip. It's extremely interesting when you consider the psychology of it all.

As far as the conquering of the Kingdom being done as a means of training his minions how to obtain victory by total annihilation is nonsensical. Since this kingdom was of no challenge or threat at all there was nothing to be learned or gained by its annihilation. It's the equivalent to a foot soldier squashing ants and claiming that it prepared them to be a gifted General. An ant is an ant and will never be anything but an ant. There is nothing to be learned from squashing them because they put up no resistance and your plans never see adequate resistance. The only thing his minions learned was cruelty which should have been unnecessary considering their demons and cruelty should be second nature to them already. Had the done this with a kingdom capable of putting up more of a fight it would be understandable but we had two prime examples of extreme cruelty in the two kingdoms that were annihilated in this arc.

The one and only benefit was the fear it would instill in other lands that learned of it which I won't deny is beneficial however in this video you state that it was something he did not want to spread. If true, it brings us back round to the genocide being a pointless exercise in cruelty.

Thanks for the video.

Imho you missed a key important point, Overlord at the end of the day is a Japanese anime which is shaped by their culture and experiences. That said one of the biggest influence in their culture was the atomic bomb, so what Ainz is doing is akin to what happened in Japan. Japanese of all countries know the effect of such things and this is exactly why Ainz did what he did. It's a show of force kinda like our modern nuclear deterrence. Now it'll either work or backfire, all will depend on how the author wants to develop the story.

As much as I love the series, I do find it distasteful. Killing innocence is always distasteful.
That’s why I prefer the episodes and story arcs that focus specifically on The main characters.
I just want to see them hiding in their castle, isolated from the rest of the kingdom, playing off each other and having fun, maybe killing the odd intruder.

But the moment mercy is laughed at, and genocide is the main goal, I find it hard to like the show.

Ainz just do what Nicolas Machiavel said to do... reign with just enough cruelty to rid of your land of bad roots.

“A ruler must not fear being reproached for cruelty when it is a matter of keeping his subjects united and loyal, because with a few exemplary executions he will be more merciful than those who, through too much mercy, allow the kind of disorder to spread that gives rise to plunder and murder. This harms the whole community, while an execution ordered by a prince harms only a single individual.”

Honestly this is one of the reasons i enjoy seeing MC as the (presumably, in the case of Ainz and someone like Kira from DN since i know many refuse to consider them one) antagonist. It helps bringing out the heroic aspect of other seemingly minor and stereotyped characters, like Zanac in this case.

I genuinely didn't pay much attention to him at first, thinking that he was just going to be that type of scheming second-prince stereotype all over again, but began to grow on him when the fate of the kingdom slowly tripped down to the point of unsavable as the series progress. My man literally carried the entire kingdom on his back while it was being destroyed from the inside by his sister and his father's ideology, only to then got betrayed by his own people at the very last minute.

Ainz's insecurity in regards to his ability as a leader despite his success reminds me of Arthur Pendragon in the French series Kaamelott. Arthur was sent to the Roman Empire as a child to be safe and became a city soldier, then because of political bullcrap was made Dux Bellorum of Britain on the hopes that his origins would make the British chiefs accept to be conquered. On the way there, he meets and gets close to an old, past-his-prime Caesar, who reassures him, telling him that it took him decades to deserve his rank, and advises him to act like a great war chief, until one day he doesn't need to anymore.

Ainz’s effort to make Re-Estize Kingdom an example to other nations makes a great deal of sense, the Mongols did this many times, Kiev and Samarkand being two examples. The problem was the casus belli used made no sense. It was so trivial and impossible for any other kingdom to guard against; it would have ensured every nation knew Ainz was someone you could never trust. This would have resulted in the Sorcerers kingdom being built on a foundation of sand, not wise.

The other issue was an important character arc of Ainz was his desire to make his friend proud of what he was doing, if they should very reappear. If “Touch Me” found out what Ainz did and the reason why he did it he would not be proud of Ainz.

Finally, the attack against the supply wagons of the Sorcerer Kingdom was a surprise to Ainz, yet later you had the impression this was part of Renner’s plan. Whatever Renner’s plan was the response to the attack on the wagons would have thrown any prior plan out of the window.

If the casus belli was significant enough, perhaps a threat to the Great Tomb of Nazarick itself, then the war would make sense and be justified.

In the end Ainz provided an explanation why he was exterminating so many people when he met with Prince Zanac. In the meeting he said he wanted his friend to be happy, which once again would make sense if Ainz did not have a character-arc associated with impressing his former comrades.
