The same can be said about Russian effectiveness: Novosibirsk to Helsinki trip at 50 km and no restaurant car for a two day trip on the train? Sweep in front of your own doorstep before you complain about your neighbors.

What a beautiful new streamlined train in mint condition! I can just smell the newness oozing through the screen. How is the ride quality? It looks and sounds like a smooth solid ride.

Poland rail looks great, compared to our Romanian ones. Also the delay is small compared to our hundreds of minutes at a time, if you are unlucky to take such a train..

You are VERY BIASED against Poland. WHY ? It it irritates you so much why on earth do you go to/via Poland? Just to spit on it ? Please explain how do you know Poland is so ridden w/corruption? The country has made fantastic progress since the departure of the invincible Soviet Red Army (500.000 !) occupying Poland for 50 years, since WWII until mid-1990-ties.
The mess w/this train is resulting from some (continued) international agreements re:this train/line, since the Soviet times. The same (incl.strange closing times of the Polish restaurant car) applies to any service (or, lack of thereof) during the trip.

The Russian-only speaking Perevodnik was the same deal half a century ago. In those days on this train (and, a step-line sleeping cars from London via Hoek-van-Holland, which connected w/this train smwhre in Holland).There was one good thing: tea from the original Russian samovars, run from the Perevodnik's compartment. The tea was delicious, from then Soviet Georgia/Uzbekistan.., served in the true Russian "stakanchicks" (thin glass glass, with a "silver" metal holde)r, same as during the Tzar's times. You could pay only in the Polish or Western currencies, cash, into Perevodnik's pocket. They also carried some pretty disgusting Russian "touristy" foods (NO refrigeration!). We always thought the Polish restaurant car was getting closed in some strange manner, so these Russkies could scalp hungry/thirsty passengers. In those years when you came on board, the Russian Perevodnik was CONFISCATING your PASSPORT -in his care until you reached your destination, in whichever country. The explanation was that you were on the RUSSIAN territory (!!!) as it was a Russian car, and it was for the pax convenience: there were numerous border checks along, indeed, in the middle of the night. FOUR times crossing just the German borders: into Federal Germany, in/out of Berlin (2x), and out of commie Germany into Poland. Commie Germans were doing it together w/Soviet soldiers, waking passengers, pulling them out of beds/couchettes, using strong lights into sleepy people's eyes. Quite brutal, exercised w/commie "customs" controls - throwing all the belongings out of the suitcases, on the floor ! All in the middle of the night. My female cousin, a famous portrait painter in London, was directed by the Russkis/commie Germans to do numerous squats on the moving train, to make sure she didn't smuggle any anti-commie propaganda, or drugs, in her female bits... If you'd complain, off you go to Soviet jail - in commie Germany. So STOP bitching abt beautiful Poland, admire her strength and perseverence. Bitch abt French/ German idiots, who did NOT terminate ridiculous agreements with the SOVIETs, when the Perestroiyka aborted the commie failed/criminal experiment.

In the communist period was Berlin - Lichtenberg the end stop of all trains from us from Prague. Only trains from Karlovy Vary through Bad Brambach and Leipzig had their regular end stop on Berlin - Ostbahnhof.
