BMW M240i: Better Than An M2?!

Why can’t we get these M seats in the USA cars ? You need to get the full M with the competition package for them.

Ive weighed them up in Thailand. Im going for the M240 x Drive. The M2 is way too expensive for the slight advantages.

Ordered a Z4. Family situation meant a back seat was needed; changed order to M240i. Things could be worse!

BMW lost me as a customer for their coupes when they dropped the DCT, the single best part of their prior sporty cars.

Has to be a manual for me. It’s not all about power, that’s for sure.

Had a test drive with the intention of placing an order…….but after noticing the hard, scratchy black plastic interior door panels I’ve decided to look at an alternative.
It be is not OK to have such cheap nasty plastic trim in a £55,000 car. No other BMW model has such cheap trim!

I've had an M240i ( '69 plate, so granted it's not the same as this one) and an M2 Competition (again '69 plate) and the M240i was a bag of shit. The M2 Comp was an amazing car to drive!

A great car in a splendid colour. We're getting our BMW 3-series re-painted since we never liked the stock grey. I pick bronze, my wife wants dark green. Maybe we'll compromise on purple?

I hate the look of this 240 it’s so boxy but not in a classic bmw way - it looks like a small ugly dog 😂

Aaaaaand my favorite, M340i , gets ignored again. sigh.

Let's give this some context. I have a 2007 330d SE model with a custom rolling road map to 290bhp, and a gearbox map. It produces 600NM torque, or 505lbs/ft in old money. It does 0-60 in about 5 seconds, but the real issue is the torque. It is the same as a 5 litre superchanged Jaguar F Pace SVR. It's on Michelin Pilot sport 4's. It handles. The whole package cost me less than £8K.

It does not make more power than an M2 Comp.

My 240i has averaged 37mph in the2 weeks I’ve had it. I can feel the hate it has towards me..

Does the 2023 line of 230i/M240i series cars now come with iDrive 8 Operating Systems, and the new large curved display? This video might already be outdated from the last two weeks of design updates.

I have the previous generation M240i and although I might be a little biased, I much prefer it over this new one. It's much more elegant and attractive, has a better sound with out the PPF, is almost 150kg lighter because it doesn't have AWD and is available in a manual. Also, BMW's new digital dials are pretty horrible to look at. There's just something about having analogue dials. Bit like having a classy watch over a Casio.

Damn BWM really got Dr. Stone to design the car and coloured in the succ emoji colour, absolutely wild.

Wait for those AI chip upgrades when we can just think it and the car will change gear.... Paddles will be a thing of the past 😂

It might be quicker than an M2, but I wouldn't sacrifice beauty for speed in this instance. I would still rather have an M2 over this monstrosity any day, what was the design team smoking?

Never better than an m2, its just not chassis, brakes, noise. The m2 is a proper "m" car and this isn't. I'm a 340i owner myself, you buy the m light cars knowing they arnt the full fat m cars but more livable, exceptionally fast for a lot less cash, simple as that

Anyone else think this looks like a Chinese knock off BMW? A ZNUU i042 if you will... I get they're trying to reign in their styling philosophy after the recent backlash of the last gen of cars, but... I don't think this is the right direction either 😬

You ought to drive the entry level base 230i rear wheel drive coupe. For less than $40k (USD) you can buy a fun, sporty, daily driver. It’s clearly the best BMW value in the current market. It’s got the same chassis bits except much lighter up front, which give you a better with nimble handling in corners.

During the last 5-10 years BMW has really sharpened up its interior. But the exterior of this car is just wrong. Yeah sure, it's a personal opinion obviously but I wouldn't be caught dead in this car, even if it were the upcoming M2.. it's hideous..nightmarish...an epic fail. But for those who like its looks it will be a great car, it surely performs really well and the M2 will do even better surely.

Excellent review, covered just about everything a potential buyer could ask for.
The kidney grilles on the newer cars are getting big and silly looking now and totally taking away the somewhat "aggressive" or even traditional look of the older BMWs, but these on this particular model seem fine.
Thanks so much for this, fabulous looking car and well done mentioning summer and winter driving, I have found BMWs super all year round apart from ice weather especially on inclines where they can be a bit jaunty!

People just love to criticize things even when to lots of people this car is perfect. His opinion doesn’t make it so. I happen to love this car and the sound it makes. And maybe joe down the street doesn’t but who really cares what joe has to say.

Prob is, mercedes are putting out over 400 horses for a 2.0L. BMW are short changing in my opinion
