Where in your life can you practice critical thinking?
How can you think critically about your communication?

John Chetro Szivos is a semi-retired professor but still an active author who recently published On Becoming a Critical Thinker: Awakening Your Business Superpower. A student of Vern Cronen’s at UMass, Amherst and a dedicated CMM researcher and follower of the philosophy of John Dewey, he offered this manuscript to help others improve their thinking to make better social worlds.

Today, John and Abbie discuss communication and critical thinking, not as skill sets, but as embodied ways of being. Abbie and John explore an experience of John’s as a metaphor for the practice of critical thinking, consider the (potentially) complimentary relationships between individuality and sociality, and break down what it looks like to practice critical thinking. John discusses the difference between technical and adaptive problems and how critical thinking shapes our responses. Finally, Abbie and John discuss choice, joint action, and interdependence.
