Yeah, as someone who does deep sky astrophotography I can tell you that these claims are bullshit.

Those beautiful images of the Milky Way as well as images of nebulas and galaxies are composites (the correct term is called stacking) of hundreds if not thousands of long exposure raw photos. The total exposure time in those images is measured in tens and sometimes hundreds of hours, different filters are used to either filter skyglow and light pollution or to capture very specific wavelengths of light (hydrogen alpha and oxygen usually).

Though single exposure astrophotography is also a thing, but you generally don't see exposure times shorter than 15s and obviously a phone without a tripod wouldn't be able to get even half a second without motion blur.

Also in large cities the sky can be so light polluted that it might be hard to see any stars at all (in RGB).


However as some people are saying google could be inserting an artifical starscape into photos based on either the location data and gyroscope or what's more likely they would detect the few of the brightest stars that actually got captured on the image and match the part of the sky to that (the detection would work just like astrometry.net).

Another year google bitches up their phone designs... Like how is this still a problem? 4 years the pixel has been around and google still can't figure out how to make a phone look somewhat decent. The first gen pixel was retarded with massive amounts of wasted space. Then came the second gen which fixed the wasted space but wasn't exactly exciting or noteworthy. The third gen just took apples notch to the EXTREME for no real reason other than to intentionally piss people off then add a chin to add insult to injury. And now with the pixel 4 which is just insane looking like I'm so glad this phone is gonna have a 1 inch thick top bezel just so you can use hand gestures, like who has been asking for this? I swear google has no interest in making real phones they just half ass it because they think they have to.

If only Google increased their presence across ASIA, it would definitely beat apple!
