I was having one of my darker days today. This moved me to tears at every movement. It felt like music that transcends your inner turnoil and shows you there is a purpose to your suffering. I know it makes no sense but you can only know it if you've experienced it.

I found it quite interesting for me to play Bach cello suites and Paganini's Caprices in my own mediocre technique on my viola 💯

This may be literally the best piece of music ever written…As a violinist, I have played it 2 or 3 times, and it is an amazing experience.

I'm no one in particular, I try to write a book, one of the characters is a young cellist. When she appeared I did research what her favorate composer or symphony would be. People around her enjoys her presences as no other. After I having selected Mahler's Second, I decided that her live should be short, her funeral overwhelmed with this music. I still cry hot tears when I listen to this piece. A Mahler fan for ever.

I started reading Heidegger's being and time as a passion project. was looking for music to listen along with the book, then found this gem. the content of the book is going over my head, but this piece of music made the reading experience interesting.

I heard Mahler live for the first time today, it was the 2nd, and it was transcendent, sublime. Even with half the orchestra and choir of this performance, it was one of the most emotional and memorable experiences in my life. More than I could have imagined. If you ever have a chance to see this live, you will not regret it.

Zitat Wikip.:

Glorious music, magnificent interpretation, and flawless, committed performance. Mahler's second is one of my favorite pieces of music, and I've heard many dozens of performances of this, including hearing it performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Symphony Hall (a bit of a disappointment, actually). This version is one of the best, from my point of view. I especially like that they staged it as Mahler directed, including the remote trumpets. Mariss brings a marvelous sense of dynamics to the proceedings and really seems to understand Mahler's intent (at least what I think of as Mahler's intent). In the final 10 minutes, I burst into tears, completely overwhelmed by the beauty, tragedy, and ethereal splendor of this work. Every time I hear it, I see heaven opening up--and I'm not religious. I also want to commend the recording, which is perfection, and especially the video editing, which visually highlights each element of the score as it comes up. It's wonderful to see everyone putting as much into the performance of this piece as Mahler put into creating it.

It is a pity that the sound quality is sub-standard, I have good Bose speakers and the better the MP4 resolution, the better the sound. The microphones used seem to be very distant even in tutti and fff.
