Dirán lo que quieran de Segovia, pero esta obra es escrita en 16avos y suena como un chorizo sin acentos. Por eso la mayoría lo tocan igual, por imitación y no por lectura.

As much as a legend Segovia is I have to say Pepe Romero handles this piece a lot better. Every musician has there flaws and advantages in different aspects. I can’t think of my other piece I can say this about.

Hé says that Paco de lucia was not à good guitariste but have intelligent fingers. What did it means? Paco was à genius and doesn t no the notes. There was à jealous Guy behind his déclaration i think. Remenber the interprétation of concierto the ajanjuez played by Paco...joakin Rodrigo says that was the best interprétation he never hear.

I must admit that I lost some of my respect to Segovia when I learned he did not like the Etudes from Villa. Villa eventually dedicated his 12 Etudes for Guitar to Segovia, but the guitarist was not enamoured of these works at all. Indeed, he says this in a 1928 letter to Manuel Ponce: “From his swollen number of compositions I do not exaggerate in telling you that the only one that is of any use is the study in E Major." Segovia never recorded the complete Etudes, but the few he did are masterful.

Does anyone know of a villa lobos composition, probably called memories of the Alhambra, played by either Barney Kessel or Laurindo Almeida, broadcast by the BBC in the middle 1950s.

I know it's Segovia. And Im not anywhere as good as him, on his worst days......BUT....

His transitions from one arpeggio to the next, is not smooth. He has slight pause, which is not mentioned in the music to do. So to me, it loses that consistent fluidness.
But that's just me.
I like that fluid sounding arpeggio, accenting on the bass note and the higher notes, to get that dreamy sense of fluidness going.

When I was trying to get my speed on this, I changed the time signature cause I didn't like messing with my metronome. So instead of 4/4, I played it
|1e&a2e&a 3e&a4e&a 1e&a2e&a 3e&a4e&a|
the sheet music has it that each arpeggio is played twice, with 2 bars. I just put the 2 bars as one, same tempo but now I have 8 notes in a beat. I haven't messed with sight reading in over 20 years so my mind can't think of what this time signature is, I just remember my peers gave me crap over this cause I changed the time signature and thus changed the beat to slow down but the notes are still blasting away. All cause the buttons would get stick on my metronome and so I hated having to mess with it and with my solution I stumbled on this. It creates this consistent fluidness. And if you accent on the (1e&a and 3e&a) you'll give it more of that dreamy sound.

I loved paying this song, my parents probably hate though.......I literally played it about 50 to 70 times a day when I learned it to play it for my recital. I also played etude no 2, with this at the recital. Using the same time signature. That one was much more tougher to play, though

Oh how I miss playing classical.

This is a terrific song to practice your right hand technique. Especially to learn how to accent on the desired notes, while maintaining the speed.

I think I need to bust out my classical......which is an etude....haha
