Dang I love these videos! I’m now buying a 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 on eBay, and I’m supplementing it with a used 24” Apple Cinema Display. I’m going to upgrade it and see if I have the heart to sell it for a bunch more than I paid for it, or if I fall so in love with it that I just have to keep it 🤣

If you were to do this again today would there be any new products that would further maximize performance?

I have this Mac Pro. I would love to max mine out. Now the LED light comes on, but not booting. I think it may be a memory issue. I have 8-4Gig memory bars in all slots.

Hackintosh is all good until you need to update the OS, even using a real Mac thats now Unsupported will work a lot better than a hackintosh as if you patch a newer OS on to it it tends to run better with less effort then a hackintosh

I need one with basic components (Stock CPU/Video card) I use OS X 10.8.11 and as much Ram and HD space for all my Computer aided Drafting (CAD) needs, video is a non-issue, as some drawings get to be very large, much RAM is required, as well as Hard drive storage.

I bought mine for only 300 €, with 32 Go ram and 512 solid state you know. Buy them before everybody knows this is the Mac to go...

Hello and thx for this useful vid. I'm new in the Pro Apple world... I've just bought a Pro 2010 5,1 on eBay (for nothing, but shut), but I don't know if he can handles two processors. How can you see that ? Mine is a quad core Xeon, I guess something equivalent to a 4790K from intel. But, do I have to change the motherboard to upgrade at the max, or does the base motherboard able to handle 2 CPUs ? Thx to help me seeing clearly in the mist.

Hi Luke! I have 2010 5,1 mid Mac Pro and my old Processor was single 2.5 Quad-core Xeon, 32GB Ram 1066 Mhz DDR3 ECC and AMD Radeon HD 7950 3 GB. After seen your video, I upgraded it to Dual 2 x 3.46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon and 128 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and 1TB SSD. The Computer do detect the ne upgrade etc.. however, I noticed that the speed is not faster than the single dual how it was before the upgrade. Is there anything Im doing wrong? Please help. Thanks

I have a early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1, with dual 3 Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon chips and 16 MB of ram, with a 1 TB SSD drive, a USB 3 PCIe card, 4 hard Drives, and the original Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512 mb. Tuns very nicely. If you were going to Mod it, Luke, what would you change - and why? Many thanks!

I have a 5,1 running upgraded 2x 5680's, 24GB of RAM (though only 20GB is visible) a PCI NVMe and a GTX 1080. It still holds up well but single core performance is pretty mediocre. I know overclocking on EFI (even while running Windows) isn't really feasible, but after two decades of Intel on OSX is there really no way to get some extra juice out of the CPU's?
