Tried the 7a as a replacement for my S10+. But then I found a deal on an S22U that cost only $50 more than the 7a. After a week of intense trials, the 22 had a superior camera, esp in video, display brightness, mike recording sound, and overall feel of build. The 7a had more adjustments to tinker with, and could be rooted easier,. I think that is the Pixel target market: users who tinker, while Samsung is older users who have passed that by. I also played with a Pixel 8 my friend loaned me for a day, and I would say take the 8 over the 7a for battery, brightness, and next gen. upgrades. And just to throw in for older owners like myself : my wife's Apple 13 is almost enough to make a fan of me, but I can't get by its interface which is clunky. Apple is quality audio, long battery life, and excellent balance of display, camera, and video ability. But dang expensive, too. Get an S23+ on sale somewhere (without having to sign an expensive 2-3 year plan !!)

WORST PHONE EVER!!! It's like every $30 crappy phone from Walmart.

Body Design - 58/100 (One of the only things in the "good" category, looks a bit premium, but it feels cheap)
Battery Life - 21/100 (Dies every 6-7 hours)
Charging - 10/100 (Charges very slowly and has charging problems)
Main Camera - 43/100 (Somewhat blurry, very shaky, and only zooms in 8X)
Video Quality - 35/100 (Unimpressive, shaky, and you could barely zoom in)
Other camera features - 50/100 (Has a lot of options, but they are not impressive like samsung)
Selfie Camera - 18/100 (Very blurry, iPhone XR's is better)
Performance on Wi-Fi - 63/100 (It's good when it's on Wi-Fi, but still way behind the competition)
Mobile Data - 32/100 (Even though it's on 5G UC, it still doesn't really work that well. However it does have only sub6)
Gaming: 15/100 (This is clearly not a gaming phone, some don't even work)
Display and refresh rate - 47/100 (Display isn't bad, but it's not impressive)
Sound quality - 18/100 (Quiet speakers, and they make "pop" noises)
Google Apps - 3/100 (Very lazily made, I'm stuck with them)
Customizations - 40/100 (It's not that versatile)

In India, the pixel 8 is twice the price of pixel 7a 🤣🤣 Here Pixel 8 is 75k-82k INR and Pixel 7a is 40k INR (without any sale cutoff or bank discount)

I think the inscreen finger print scanner is intentionally bad. Google has your finger prints from the older pixels, now they want to match your face id to them, by putting a feature that barely works so you use the face id instead...

Anyone notice how the mission statement "don't be evil" was dropped in '18...

I just ordered the Pixel 7a from the Google store on sale for $375. I believe the 8 was $100 off. I think if you get the 7a around half the price it's a good buy but anything closer to the 8 I probably would have gone with that.

Do not buy the google pixel 7a. Battery is not good enough. Slow charging and low capacity.

I have the pixel 8 and enjoy it but tbh i think the 7a is more than adequate for most people. Sure the ling update support is great but most dont hold on to their phones for 7 plus years also not everybody can afford the extra $200 - $300.00 price jump. I think if someone buys the 7a there gonna love it

why compare a mid-range that's currently on sale for less than 400 bucks with a phone that is 200-300 dollars more that's supposed to be the more premium option? are you stupid?

I have a Pixel 7 as a second phone. Overall, it's a decent phone. That said, the fingerprint sensor sucks. It works maybe 30% of the time. I have a pal with the 7A and he's happy with it. It's all about what works for YOU.

these tech reviewer from US need to realize, that not every country use dollar and not all currency are the same. you can't make a conclusion only by the price from your country. you can't tell people "the pixel 8 only 5$ more when sale" "you should get pixel 8 for 1$ more than the 7a". here outside US the pixel price is quite high and rarely or not even (never) getting a discounted price.

It's a lie the fact that the selfie between 6a and 7a are similar, I returned a pixel 6a because of its selfie and lack of detail. On the 7a the selfie has tons more details on it

the 8 is way more expensive... telling someone to "just get" something that's $200 more is a little extreme. That's a good amount of money to people these days.

I got the 7a when it launched. I should have waited for the 8. I might upgrade when the software support dies for the 7a. 7a is an amazing phone. Only thing i hate is the plastic back. While it feels amazing and glass like it scratches up very easily and a lot from daily use. I had to get a case just to cover the scratches as it looks super ugly.

logically not everyone can afford the pixel 8. even if its only 50 dollars more than 7a during sale and deals. what seems like only 50 bucks to americans translates to a lot of money outside the american bubble. pixel 7a is the best where it stands in the price segment

The Pixel 8 is so good that it's blowing it's own siblings out the water. I love Pixel phones and I respect their A series, but I trust the Pixel 8. I can have the Pixel 8 for the next 7 years for sure, I do not think I can say the same for the 7a.

I think the display is what a phone is, if the display is sub par I won't touch a phone , doesn't matter what features a phone has . I took a look at a 7a phone and despite it's 90hz, the display seems very dim , not as bright and vibrant as a 6a. The pixel 8 display is wonderful!

Those with 7a, hold on to it. I'll tell you why,
1. Google will pass down features eventually to older phones, especially to those with tensor chips.

2. Exactly by end of the support of 7a, Google should be launching chips that are not exynos-based.

3. Google have killed multiple services. I think they'll back off from the support timelime they have provided. Even if they don't, it's still a win because next pixels will also be providing same support timeline.

Software updates become meaningless when the battery starts failing. Right now my 5 year old Pixel 4 battery is at 77% which still gets me through the day. Replacement from Google is $200 as my glass back has a crack. So I intend to run Pixel 4 into the ground and then get a new phone. But if my Pixel 4 died on me right now I would get a base Pixel 8 as I like the updated screen.

The only reason I didn't upgrade to the Pixel 8 was because of the storage options. 256GB max is not enough when the Pixel 8 Pro has up to 1TB. Everyone is NOT in the market for a huge phone. I miss the days when Google made the same phone features, and they offered the smaller phone and the XL.
