I use a 1/8 on my X100V. Just a light touch of bloom and halation without someone saying “hey what filter is that?”
I have the 20% cinebloom as well, but that’s a heavy hitter for ethereal night scenes.

How i should meter the light if I’m using the pro Mist 1/4? Like usually + 1 stopp or do I need more stops?
Ответитьthe 1/4 and 1/2 doesn't show any difference.
Ответить1/8 vs 1/4 analysis most appreciated. Thank you 🙏😊
ОтветитьToo many eh's for me!
ОтветитьHuge help, thank you! I just purchased the Fuji 56mm f1.4 and wanted to find a good match for it, instead of using a UV/Protection filter. I like extra protection. Ialso have a Promaster HGX polarizer with a stepdwon ring Ican use on this lense. :) Great video and help!
ОтветитьCan’t tell. No comparison shots.
ОтветитьHis work is beautiful but his idea of subtle is vastly different than mine.
ОтветитьSpeaking of lighting, really enjoy your desk/room lighting. 🤌 the red/warm contrast
ОтветитьThe is also a warm version.. the only one in stock at the moment. Did you tried that? Or do you not recommend it? Its called warm black pro mist 1/4 or 1/8
ОтветитьFor anyone who is interested; when Tiffen created Pro Mist filters they created the different strengths in order to provide a consistent level of filtration across the range of focal lengths because the filtration effect increases as the focal length of the lens becomes more telephoto. A 1/4 pro mist (black or white) will be much stronger on an 85mm lens than it will be on a 25mm lens. A common formula for using Pro Mist filters is 1/2 for 18mm and wider, the 1/4 for 25-35mm and 1/8 for 50mm and above. This principle applies to all diffusion filters. I hope this information is useful.
ОтветитьI have something in common with those filters: I like to take the edge off
ОтветитьHi Kyle..i cannot afford the wonderful Fuji 50r but would you recommend starting with my love for Pentax- the K1 mark 2 perhaps befor going medium format. And maybe couple that with 645n ? Thanks for you vids…so inspiring as I am an ex- photogravure printer by profession and used to scan negs/positive on huge Perspex drum scanners
ОтветитьCan we use multiple filters at same time ( cpl + nd + black mist) ?
ОтветитьDid you ever get around to shooting the promist on the 6x7? Any impressions?
ОтветитьThat was a quite explanatory video on what these filters do and how to predict the effect they make - sometimes the effect demonstrated is kind of too weak to be noticed even in direct comparisons.
ОтветитьExtra point, the longer the focal length the more intense it will be, a 1/4 on a 70-200 can be a bit too overwhelming
ОтветитьI've ordered the new 7Artisans black mist filter into 1/8 strenght. I am more for the Film look, more analog. Because i love Film photography. Since one of my nowadays very old DSLR renders more film-esque, i hope to enhance that feeling a bit more with an 1/8 black mist filter, without overdoing it.
Ответить2 bad there isnt a comparison shot of no filter , 1/4 and 1/8.
ОтветитьI just shot a outdoors day event (lowrider picnic) using A BLACK PRO MIST FILTER stacked with a ND filter. These really improve the visuals big time. I shoot with a D3200 Nikon Crop Senor DSLR and 35mm kit lens.
ОтветитьAhahahha funny « nothing too over the top » talking about the car upside down! Good one
ОтветитьA "feature" of digital photography is that everything is sharp and ultra-defined in a paradise for pixel-peepers. Yet there is an appealing and desirable ascetic in the imperfection of film photography and to myself, Pro-Mist filters is a way of putting that back into digital photography.
ОтветитьHey Kyle what is the ring to use on different size lenses, please? Cheers
ОтветитьAny ideas on how to create this look in post? Maybe dehaze on photos but video 🤔
Ответитьi don't think you used the word "CHARACTER" enough......please don't skimp next time.
ОтветитьJust picked up a 1/8 Black Pro Mist to use with Fuji glass on my X-T4. Did a boatload of research and looking forward to playing with it!
ОтветитьWell, this is the video that convinced me to pick up a few of these filters for my GFX! Thanks for making such a good video full of examples and such!
ОтветитьCant wait to give these a go on my Z7, will be a great way to keep the practicality of digital while adding a bit of vibe to my photos.
ОтветитьTiffen or Polar Pro Mist Filter??
ОтветитьGreat review. Just used your link bro.
ОтветитьAn old trick from way back in the day is to just rub your nose on the UV filter and then smear this super thin film of nose-fat over the UV filter to even it out. I wonder if the effect is similar... It certainly is cheaper, lol.
ОтветитьAre the pro mists no cine bloom the same ?
ОтветитьWhat’s the differences with the pearlescent ones?
ОтветитьGreat video and examples
ОтветитьI shoot film with the 1/8 and looks amazing! Even more with Cinestill 800t
ОтветитьYou put grains in your pictures?
ОтветитьIs this suitable to use for outdoor high key portraits?
ОтветитьThis was so helpful. What do you shoot your short films with is it the camera you are using to film this video?
ОтветитьHm the 1/4 is just too much for me
Ответитьthe intro reminded me of getting to the word count I needed in school texts
Ответить非常棒
ОтветитьThat bell phone booth made me think of Canada and I was like “were there bell phone booths in the U.S. like this?? I thought they were all Bell South.. then boom, I saw a photo that gave away you’re in Canada: highway sign in English and French!
ОтветитьSuper helpful stuff, I just bought my first film camera and I'm stoked. Lets be friends dude your work is sweet!
Ответить'Kind of' could not finish watching, 'you know'
ОтветитьIs that horrible noise on all pictures and videos is a product of this filter?
ОтветитьYeah. Buying a sharp lens just to soften it up with a filter, absolutely brilliant. What about buying a soft lens in the first place?
ОтветитьDo you need different ones for different depths of lenses?
Ответитьdamn i really want that motel photo as my wallpaper
ОтветитьI’ve got an X100T and I’m confused what to get between the 1/4 and 1/8! I want to just put it on my camera and forget about it. Is 1/4 too strong for everyday photography? Is 1/8 so subtle that the looks make it purchasing it not worth it?
Ответить
