Intel Extreme Tuning Technology has solved this issue with its own Optimization Software that analyzes your system and gives you the best stable overclock. I have two 13900k Systems and both are Optimized to hit 6.0Ghz on 3 P Cores and the others on 5.7Ghz and the E Cores on 4. 5. Temps are in the upper 70s to mid 80s. I’m fine with that.

There is an easier way to undervolt Asrock board:

CPU Vcore Compensation = Level 1

Cpu Core/Cache Voltage = Offset Mode, enter negative value to maximum -100 mV.

Base Frequency Boost, this is PL1, set it to any other value than Auto to optimize it further

There is reason why Asrock put vcore compensation and base frequency boost prominently in the bios, at the very top of the OC Tweaker section.

My 13600kf purchased August '23 in a MSI Z690 Edge DDR4 mobo doesn't run hot, i was expecting 90°C running Cinebench but it stabilised at 77°C. Tweaking the fan profile got it down further. Great productivity chip and gaming performance is good.

never set voltages by hand as in this video, only undervolt with an offset, e.g. up to 100mV

Well... I have undervolted and tested different voltages...
My i5 13600K was at 100°C stock.
No matter how little I lowered the voltage, there was a slight dip in performance. And there was always thermal throttling, never going below 100°C.
Obviously the first thing to consider is if the cooling is adequate, right? Well, yeah...
I have a bequiet cooler capable of 250W of cooling. Should be ok, no?...
I have checked my mounting on the CPU and the paste application... Everything was in order...
Unfortunately, although I know it's true that you can get better temps with undervolting, I must have gotten a shitty sample... My guess is either that the CPU or CPU isn't flat enough, or even worse that the die doesn't make good contact with the IHS (that's what the cover is called, right? 😅 ).
I won't be trying to fix that cause I want my warranty, but unfortunately I can state that sometimes some people might just not be lucky...
Having 40°C at idle and immediately skyrocketing at 100°C when stress testing is dum... But I guess that's what you get with intel lately...
I just wonder if my intel choice is actually faster than the AMD I was considering... With the shitty sample and high temps I mean...
I went with an intel CPU because it was supposed to be slightly faster. But is that really the case when constantly thermal throttling? I'm not so sure anymore...

Great video mate. There is an yt channel that has set the PL1 70 and PL2 70; without undervolt and found minimal drop in performance. But the tester had worked at other watts; and in other testings had also applied undervolting.

This seems like it might be an ASRock thing for the voltages. There might be some other setting forcing the CPU to run as close to the 1.365 V instead of applying the manual voltage. Should probably check into that so you can get lower voltages

MSI motherboards makes this very easy with an option called CPU Lite Load, default is level 9 and I just set mine to level 5, significant drops in power draw and temps without a reduction in performance, can go all the way down to level 1 if stable.

Do i understand it correctly (i guess that 1.460 you put in BIOS got me confused)? You manually set the voltage (but only if the offset mode is limited) excactly the same as stock readout during the 1st benchmark run? And then go lower by small increments to keep the clocks readouts the same, also setting a load line level high enough not the got drops. Is that right?
Sounds convincing and not that hard, but there are some threads around the internet that say it's complicated and that you need to fine-tune AC_LL and DC_LL correctly to do it, which is way more difficult, when you read it. What do you think?

Asrock's Load Line Calibration is backwards compared to Asus. Higher LLC on Asrock boards actually increases Voltage droop. That's why the actual voltage was lower than what you enetered. Because you set the LLC higher-----which actually lowers voltage at load, on Asrock boards.

its interesting to see how 1-2 decades ago overclocking was the ‘thing’ to do …… in recent times (~3-5 years) the focus has switched heavily to undervolting, even before energy ⚡⚡costs we’re skyrocketing 🤯! I’ve been doing simple ‘quick n dirty’ undervolts for about 5 years now and seen decent and noticeable (in software / bios results only) reduction in system / component temps and power draw 💪🥳

seems like you are looking at the wrong voltage, Nic.
I have learned that VID is the voltage that the CPU requests, it is NOT the actual voltage the mainboard applies (vcore).
