Surprisingly wise words. Well done. I’ve always disliked this ‘follow your passion’ advice. First, as a fairly high functioning,
yet chronically depressed person (despite the positive effect of many helpful routines I follow), feeling Passionate about anything is pretty much a non-starter. That’s said there are certain activities can get me into a decent zone. Second, those things are quite diverse, and quite difficult to rationalize down to any one concept. Another good framework is to follow what energizes you..
Godspeed…

Hey thank you for this video! A question... What if you have been doing something actively for a few years but nothing else has shown up, and you're not really into what you were doing anymore?

Hold on...but how can I know which quatity should I measure to try for each hobbies? 🧐

And according to the "so good they can't ignore you" of Cal Newport. What if 1 month may not enough to decide whether you really passion about it or not? 🧐

Love your content but it brings me confusion 😅😂

You know, two years ago I was in a situation where I was terribly sad that I didn't know what my destiny was and my sister showed me this video you sent and you really helped me, you calmed me down, yes even in the choice I took there were quite a few difficulties but they also pass, and it helped me move forward and feel Better with time, thank you so much for this video, you gave me such a big relief, and understanding that we really are okay with not everyone knowing about the beginning

Absolutely Right! I was drawn to music when i was younger. I work at it, learned it, got great at it and applied it to life! I now dont play music, slacked and stopped pursuing it, but once I choose to pursue it again, I'm back at it and love it! It's a choice to work at whatever it is you choose. Currently Im choosing writing and film. Love it Work it and Make It Happen! Work It!

Another thing is I was overthinking what I would like to do to choose a good college major, and even though I was interested in sociology, I hated the college experience and after two years I quit because I would definitely not want to pursue a career in sociology… it’s still an interest and hobby, but I would hate to dedicate my life to it.

I must agree because I was always drawn to fashion and I prioritised buying clothes over buying food, so I would basically starve myself for years just so that I can afford to dress myself and I never considered that a passion, I thought it’s just something that makes me feel better and more confident, a priority or value, but as I got older and kept working on my wardrobe and my personal style, I realised that it’s such a deeply personal thing of self expression that I could definitely label it as passion… it ignites that fire inside to pursue a certain aesthetic that I no longer have doubts about it being a waste of time or money. It’s just me. It’s what I love. It’s what I want to do with my life. The question remains whether I shall pursue a career in that industry. That comes with a lot of questions, uncertainties, insecurities etc.

I feel pationate about my main purpose for living which has less to do with what kind of work I do than it does with helping to spread the gospel while working to heal myself when growing as a person too. Since the average person must change careers about 7 times over their life time because of for example the aging process. If I were to follow all of my interests which have ever interested me in the past too it might frighten my adult children if I were to give some of the items on that list a try again.

wow, this video is exactly what i needed to hear rn. i'm currently trying to decide on both a career path and new hobbies. I just recently decided that what I thought was my passion since I was 9 years old, is not what I want to do anymore. I've been reallyyyy struggling with figuring out what my next step is, but really its been a lot of inaction, indecisiveness and fear. I came across this video at the perfect time. The corridor principle seems so obvious, but when I heard it, felt like a lightbulb went off. It feels like such a relief to realize that even if I pick something that I don't like, i'm one step closer to finding what i do like. THANK YOU.

It's amazing you said 'If you have a fear of time running out'. I have always had a fear of time running out which stemmed from a childhood illness. It determined every decision I ever made about my future and my career. As much as I would never regret my career to date, as of a year ago I started to make steps towards an area I really enjoy and wasn't just doing out of guilt. It's exciting to begin this journey. Found your channel recently- it's really great!

My passion is not a mystery to me, I have a clear vision of it as a hobby and as a professional work. I just don't have the money to build it to "professional work,"+ my chronic illness kinda forces me to go that path since I can't get used to the corporate environment

I flew head first into my passions of art, culture, and world travel, eons ago. I since became a mom of disabled children, and have had to kill my love for adventure and settle down. Basically I traded 3/4 of myself to take care of what life gave me. I'm cool with it. I have great stories and life lessons to teach my kids and we have fun creating art, even more fun chaotic messy art together. But I still have the "go, travel, explore, create" bug in the back of my head. I will say, staying put and keeping a routine kind of squashed my free agent spirit, but hey, thems the breaks 😊 also, side note. Nothing wrong with making a boxed cake.

I loved this video, I'm definitely in the fear and inaction feedback loop so the reinforcement that doing something is better than doing nothing is so helpful. People online can be so mean and judgmental that it's hard to act sometimes! Thanks for the amazing video.

1. Excitement! "Yes I'm gonna follow my passion! This year I'll achieve my goals!"
2. Realization "wait, I don't have people I need, time and money"
3. Go to to sleep, you need to go to work tomorrow.

Hey thanks alot for your words! i fully agree and can confirm: having multiple hobbies is totally OK! Don't blame yourself to not follow one path (as many say its the only way to success: NO!) Let me share some of my own expeerience and learnings from my journey about to find my passion(s):

"the proof of the pudding is in the eating!"
I have many interests that are related to technical and electronic stuff. Beside photography, videography and softwaredevelopment, musicproduction is my main Hobby.
Recently i discovered something new and broke my boundaries:

What i learned is to try out everything that comes to your mind and sparks an interest. Evan stuff that you never expect could become a passion, dispite how unimaginable and unthinkable it is! just try it and dont judge before you got your hands dirty!

I never expected to become a Bonsai enthusiast :-D Why you ask? i dont like gardening and i avoid getting dirty. Alse i'm afraid of worms and other disgusting creatures living in the ground. Anyway i love to be in the nature, hiking and camping. It's faszinating what picturial landscapes nature has to offer. recently my mum gifted me a bonsai tree to get me something to care for. I suddenly was faszinated by this tree, bought myself a book about Bonsai and was hoocked right away. I never expected and could't even imagine to develop such an interest in plants. It also somehow helped me to come over my gardening avoidance and worm fear (a little bit).

So cut the bounderies, do it! and try something new today
