20 Games That Defined the Apple II

I died from dysentery watching this.

Lode Runner was a favorite of mine for the Apple IIe. The other was "Odyssey : The Compleat Apventure"

I wish Apple can make an Apple II Mini that includes these games and is powered by the same lightning cable used to charge the iPhone 5 and up.

You've got to have Lemonade and Brick Out on that list. I'd have found a place for Scott Adams' Adventures, Mystery House, and Odyssey: The Compleat Apventure too - I loved that game (even if it required Integer Basic)

Star Blazer was good too. I never owned an Apple II but I was obsessed with Wizardry after playing it at a friend's house.

Ah those were the days. I mean, I'm glad for the progress, but these games bring back some pretty sweet memories

Back then listening to Def Leppard Pyromania album while playing Ultima II. Sure was a heck of a lot of fun.

I had forgotten about so many of these games. Castle Wolfenstein was my first. Aquatron was a lot of fun too.

We had one Apple II in the school library and I remember 10 of us crowded around this one game, I think it was called "Sherwood Forest" or something (it was an early graphic adventure game), trying to solve the darn thing. Some of the solutions were quite silly, but it was our first taste of what was to come in the following years.

First time I saw Ultima 3 was at a friend’s house. Wow, memories. My brother loved Wizardry. My first real dungeon crawler was Adventure the Atari 2600 and King’s Quest, Zork II and Bard’s Tale

Were all the Apple II games this sluggish or is it due to the way they were captured in this video?

Two games for the Apple II I really remember are Night Mission Pinball and a Choplifter-like game called "Rescue Raiders," which I actually enjoyed more than Choplifter since it let you deploy AA vehicles, tanks, and troops.

I immediately stopped watching when I saw the 1986 remake of Ultima instead of the original, which is truly the version that defined the Apple way back in 1980.

Aztec, Ultima ][/III, Kabul Spy, Sherwood Forest, Sea Dragon, Tax Man, Castle Wolfenstein, Swashbuckler…and so many cracked games back in the day!

Conan was my favourite, as well as karateka and load runner. We also had load runner champion edition. It was really hard

I probably would have added Transylvania Penguin Software. Drol by Broderbund. Music Construction Set (especially with a Mockingboard) Sammy Lightfoot by Sierra -- there are so many good ones to count....

I'm not sure I agree that Impossible Mission defined the Apple II.

Lode Runner is one of the must addictive games I've ever played. I still play it on the vic20.

Does anybody know about the problem ive got with my iie real hardware displaying colours - same prgs shown here seem to be - kind of - monochrome and "striped", not some kind of hires, but only colourless with creepy stripes instead of colourfilled graphics?
