I really liked the sleek design more than the cinnamon waffle, because it really keeps the bullets out. Just throw some paint and greebles on if you absolutely have to,. If you try some of the newly added shapes, you can make it so there aren't so many busy edges.

I tend to avoid blocks, or half blocks unless i absolutely need to. I'll just use armor panels since they're thinner(with a degree of risk for internal components).
I also think i'll make my old miner a block taller so i can fit a larger crate. It's a carrier based one so i don't think i'll have issues.

This man treats ship building tutorials like bob ross painting tutorials and I dig it.

not the best option. you have little traction in the diagonal plane forward and down. when you dig mines and get a lot of weight from the load, it will be difficult to hang in a diagonal plane.
