I’ve seen a lot of articles about brain scans being used to diagnose mental illness.
Brain scans alone cannot be used to diagnose a mental disorder, such as autism, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. In some cases, a brain scan might be used to rule out other medical illnesses, such as a tumor, that could cause symptoms similar to a mental disorder, such as depression.

I wish we could get this done on my daughter instead of a Physiatrist always giving or changing medications it's very frustrating to us and her especially he wants to be med free on day if I can find someone like this.

This Doc doesn't ever explain what we do with this info. He literally recommends to eat better, exercise, and get more sleep. It cost at minimum $3k for this study. I think he is just scamming everyone pretending to help. He never has solutions, just explains that someone's brain has less activity...

Narcissists are morally Corrupt. Why aren't we getting brain scans that are part of a routine Check up?

Please this Dr needs to help humans in today’s time !! He sounds VERY honest!!

IM FROM A SMALL TOWN AND THE DR’S AROUND HERE DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO, OR HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A SCAN TO HELP DETERMINE ANXIETY, PTSD, SEVERE DEPRESSION AND MY BIGGEST PROBLEM TO ME IS MEMORY LOSS. I HAVE SHOWED THIS SHOW TO A FRIEND AND HE SAID TO ASK YOU WHAT TO DO. I WOULD LOVE FOR THIS DR TO DO A SCAN ON ME. I HAVE NO OTHER FRIENDS, MY KIDS HAVE TURNED ON ME AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO W ME AND NEITHER DOES MY SIBLINGS. I HATE MYSELF. I NEED HELP!!!!

Psychiatrists don't normally investigate neuroscience, neuro-psychologist do.

Oh my goodness dr Phil is as confused as most professionals in these fields. He keeps saying "in my opinion" huh yr opinion doesnt mean much to most people iv spoken to. U should do some research dr Phil on brain scans and so called behaviour causation.

I have an ex who has called child protective services on me approximately a dozen times. I have ptsd from him as is and continues to make it worse. I go to extensive therapy which has helped a lot but it’s hard to cope when his harassment doesn’t stop. I’ve even had child protective service workers

His brain scan reminds me of a brain being destroyed by dementia. It deteriorates and eats away at it. It’s terrifying. He’s just a kid, this is awful.

His use of SPECT is a scam. Neurologists will attest to this. I thank God for my psychiatrist and that I was able to seek proper treatment that has been extraordinarily helpful & life-saving instead of falling for this pseudoscientific nonsense.

Any half intelligent 2nd grader knows that the brain causes action and movement and the thought process of every human being. So what makes Dr. A men's discovery of this so unique? Fact is he has relied on past accomplishments and is reiterating what others have discovered to further his unfounded expertise. Does he know how to diagnose by facial structure? Does he support the misleading information on the symptoms of schizophrenia such as its not a violent condition?

I want to be on the show and cannot click the link. I have suffered horrendous migraines from the age of 11 and have been told by numerous doctors from England to Ireland its just a headache. They are wrong I know it. I need to discuss my issue with a medical expert like I have just seen here. The cost is so expensive to see these guys privately. I would do whatever it took to be seen properly all over the brain, whatever tests need to be done. I could raise the money to fly over. If somebody from the show sees this please get in touch. I'm 40 years suffering and its taken 1/4 of my life away with sick days and not being able to do normal things my siblings take for granted.

Doc refers to an accident. Where do they get into that? I've seen this same science show that concussions can create what looks like mental illness years later.

I have a son very similar to Cameron. He has been diagnosed with BPD so DBT Therapy can help a lot but the anger can still be an issue. Dr Amen is amazing he has thought out side the box. I would love the have him scan my boy's brain and give him more understanding and hope for a better life.

I don't know what this young man had - I assume he had a physical injury of some sort which SPECT would show. But Dr. Amen is highly criticized in the medical community for using blood flow MRIs (SPECT) to "daignose" mental illness. Yes, mental illness is biological - but it is not something (unfortunately) that can be seen with imaging. It has to do with neurotransmitter flow in certain well-studied circuits. The flow of these chemicals cannot be seen with any imaging technique. Long story short - if you want cutting edge treatment - go to a research university - not Dr. Amen's private for-profit clinics.

This “doctor” concerns me. If you look into him he’s sketchy. He probably either over-prescribes medicine like crazy for $$ or he ignores very blatant, life threatening illnesses.......Amount of blood flow doesn’t have nearly as much of an impact on your brain as he makes it out to seem.

I hate the end of these clips begging for people to subscribe. You would think by now it is not necessary and actually will probably have the opposite affect.

Why don't psychiatrists all do SPECT scans?
Probably because the insurance companies won't pay until you've tried 50,000 types of meds.
But yeah... this kid's brain is a mess.

This Doctor has a Ted talk. It’s an incredible story. He diagnosed his nephew who had something go terribly wrong in his brain over night and got worse over years. He basically saved his nephews life. A phenomenal Ted talk.

Cause we all have the money to get neurological help.... right?... 😑

There is a moral component to mental health but it’s over emphasized, often to the point of spiritual abuse. It’s very damaging to a willing person who is struggling with their brain to assume everything is a matter of will power or morality. It can turn people away from God. We don’t know why people are struggling, we judge and leave them to their own destruction sometimes trying to save themselves when they can’t because of their own brain chemistry.
