We decided on a mastiff just before finding out my wife was pregnant. Our mastiff came home at 8 weeks old ( my wife chose him because he had a slight kink in his tail and the breeder advised that it would prejudice him in showing, this broke her heart and that was that!). He was the most adorable puppy and even though he was a handful we were immediately in love. Our daughter was born and I brought one of her blankets home from the hospital for him to smell and sleep with. When we brought her home he was just amazing. We were worried about the chance of jealousy as so many people seemed so intent on commenting due to his increasing size ( completely unjustified of course). She grew up with him and he grew into the greatest and most wonderful ‘big brother’ and member of our family. He grew at an incredible rate; approximately one stone ( 14lbs) a month for the first year and on to 15+ stone (210 lbs) fit. He died at only 7 years of cancer. It broke our hearts, especially my daughters. But it thought her to grieve and this has been so important. We still miss him so much but are thankful for the love and memories. Just wonderful dogs. Phew
, that stirred up so many memories that I could have typed through the night and still not explain his impact on us ( and our entire village). Thanks for the opportunity.

I am about to get an English mastiff in a few days. Already paid the breeder and have 2 dogs reserved. I'm only taking one of them but haven't decided between the male and female. I currently have a 7 year old female great pyrenese, recently lot our 8 year old male pyrenese to cancer.

I've been lucky enough to have had 4 mastiffs , 2 Bullmastiffs 1 female and 1 unbelievable male also a beautiful female English mastiff Ruby who we lost at 11 years old last year, we now have a De Bordeaux who is the funniest dog I have ever seen . The one thing you did not mention which can be a real concern is if you need to take them to the vet and they are unable to walk it is very, very difficult to get them in the car . Ruby weighed 90 kg so it was almost impossible to lift her

I love wills videos I’ve been watching for a long time and I’ve bred English mastiff’s for years and I just think will downplays the English mastiff when describing handling business they handle it and it can get vicious

i have had 3 mastiffs. most of what you say is true. however, the dogs i have had have always been very friendly towards just about everyone. They protect you always, but they tend to do so in very subtle, gentle ways. They are as nice as they can be, but as mean as they have to be. If a toddler were to wander on my property, by mastiff would likely lick it and try and play. if a bandit were to break into my house or threaten my family.... well... its going to be a very, very bad day for that guy.

Being a stereo typical American I have no understanding of the metric system so I asked Google how many pounds 156 kilos is and I don't know if I believe it. Please, someone who is uber smart and good at converting between the metric and the imperial measurement systems tell me if this is correct. Google says 156 kilos = 343.921 lbs. First of all, if this is correct, then holy cow!! That's a huge dog! Second of all, I had no idea a dog could be that heavy. Like, physically get that huge without it's skeletal system being crushed under it's own weight and/or it's heart giving out. The largest I've ever heard of a dog getting, while still being healthy and functional, is around 200 lbs for some of the larger mastiff breeds and certain livestock guardian breeds.

I've been wondering I live in an apartment and I've always grown up with dogs and cats.

Right now my mom and I on three cats and I've been thinking about getting a dog a few friends have suggested we get a mastiff some suggested a bullmastiff and others a French Mastiff.

My question is do you think they'd be good for apartments and what they be okay with cats as well?

Maggie, out English Mastiff is 9 1/2 months old & hitting 110lbs. She is a treat & a blessing. I'd highly recommend one if you have a love of drool & huge hugs.

Our Mastiff was the best family dog we could have asked for. She was good at sizing up people and never over reacted to any one. She was so sweet but I knew we were safe with her keeping an eye on us.

Great overview, Will. Our years in Mastiff Rescue were incredible, and I still love them dearly. I'm working with a rescue Dutch Shepherd right now, and he doesn't leave me any time. But English Mastiffs are one of my favorite breeds.

Love my 200 pound English mastiff, Zakk Wild ❤ he’s by the far the most loving, sweetest, goofiest pup in the entire world. He also is always making sure we are safe when we are outside. His bark is scary enough, I’m afraid to see what would happen if someone actually wanted to hurt us. If you’re thinking about getting one, keep in mind that they’re a mess. Sheer size will have him spilling things, knocking things over with their tails and accidentally stomping on your feet, leaving you with black and blues lol. It is all worth it though!! Zakk is our fourth child

the heart of a true gentleman indeed, a gentlemen who will live for 6 years and barely runs faster than a slug, I love the dogs, but man so many dog breeds have been ruined by these dog breeders who just breed for size and power, look at iranian sarabis massive dogs that can live for 17 years, that is a dog
