An incredibly well researched video, great minus your pronunciation of some Portuguese words which is understandable. I almost hate to sing its praises because of how many American tourists and fuck boys have flooded the city ever since they got rid of the visa, but I love Rio. Truly it is my home. Biscoito!!! Paulistas are a bunch of cunts, although there are amazing and shitty people in both places. I hate to admit it, but it's true, SP has a greater variety of restaurants and the best Thai food I have had outside of Thailand is in SP, but I still prefer RJ. It is such a great city and I am sure they will figure out the night life. I mean, they are both awful, no one ever come to Brasil, you'll get raped and murdered... Damn it, more tourists are going to come

Hello, unfortunately, there are some factual and historical mistakes in the video. I will try to summarize what I remember:

1- São Paulo os the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere. You said it was the third largest, if recall correctly. Mexico City is north of the Equator.

2- The climate both in Rio and São Paulo is not of a savannah, with "a dry and a wet season". That would apply to the cerrado region, in the center of Brazil, where Brasília is located. SP and Rio are at the Atlantic Forest region. There is rain to a certain amount all year long, but more in the summer (December through March); in the winter, it gets down to 8°C in São Paulo and let's say a minimum around 17° C in Rio and it rains less, but it is not dry.

3- São Paulo was not the first Portuguese settlement in the Americas. That would be São Vicente, in the state of São Paulo, but along the coast. São Paulo was founded later by Jesuits but it never had any economic attractiveness to the Portuguese because the main economic activity of Brazil until the 1700s was sugar production, which happened in the north east of Brazil, mainly in Bahia and Pernambuco (which explains the large African heritage of those regions, because of African slavery for plantations); Salvador, in Bahia state, was the largest city in Brazil, but when the Portuguese crown moved to Brazil, they decided to settle in Rio due to climate and also because the sugar industry was already in decadence after the Dutch invaded the northeast of Brazil and ended Brazilian monopoly over sugar production by introducing sugarcane to the Caribbean. The important thing to remember, however, is that Rio and São Paulo were not relevant economic center until the 1700s, when, due to poverty and in search of gold and Indians to enslave, the Paulista "bandeirantes" began to explore and expand westwards until they discovered precious metals and diamonds in the Minas Gerais ("general mines") region, close to SP and Rio. The production of those mines was exported through the cities of Paraty and Rio, which was the origin of the initial wealth of Rio. When gold was mined to the last stone, the next big economic cycle was coffee, which began in Rio de Janeiro, but rapidly expanded to São Paulo and generated THE FIRST major source of income for São Paulo and made it begin growing to become the megalopolis it is today. The place this chronologically, coffee was introduced in Brazil in the late 1700s, early 1800s, and São Paulo (the main coffee producing region) only surpassed Rio in population in the 1950s. So no, SP and Rio were not large scale sugar cane producers.

There are several other relevant mistakes in the video which would advise a revision of this material.

I live in SP and didn't think RJ landscape was a big deal until I visited it in 2014. I admit it's really great and even motivated me to visit it again for the Olympic games in 2016.
However, I must point out some points about SP are lacking: although more expensive, the public transport in SP is far better than RJ (the subway network is an actual network). Also we have the Interlagos racetrack, being part of the Formula 1 circuit for decades now.

G'day Mr Beat. I did mention to my round the world specialist travel agent that Sao Paulo wouldn't be a bad destination🍺🍺🥃🤸. BUT South America & Africa limit RTW itineraries. So I'm going from Melbourne to Mexico City (& Monterrey) via London, Northern Ireland/Morocco (technically is Africa)/Ireland & Montreal (8 hours in the afternoon each way - perfect for a steak +🍷🍷). Air Canada baggage fees are abhorrent so a backpack is my chosen choice. I can't go via the US or onboard an American airline coz I've previously enjoyed drinking tea in Iran. Did you say you were from Kansas City?. I've done the St Louis, MO - East St Louis, IL pub crawl🍺🍺🥃🤕 back in 2019. Perhaps I'll do the Kansas City, KS - Kansas City, MO pub crawl one day?. Cheers as always 👍

I am always willing to help foreigners to correct their knowledge gaps when they decide to talk about Brazil. I had started to correct some information errors that exist in this video, but the amount of outdated and wrong information is so great, that I decided to stop letting it go and hope that those who watch it do their research on official sites and reliable sources. Yes, the Internet still hasn't taken off the blindfolds of many foreigners about Brazil, and finally about Brazil that our Ministry of Tourism insists on hiding from the world.😪.

Sem falar q pegaram imagens horríveis de São Paulo, são cidades totalmente diferentes, q tem coisas lindas nas duas.

Rio de Janeiro is almost totally garbage place disguised. The south zone (zona sul) which comprehends 10% of the whole city is a kind of dome. Around it 90% is totally dirty, full of trash, graffiti all over the city, the rivers and lakes are polluted, really ROTTEN.High cost of living, poor investment in education, in the infrastructure, tons of traffic, robbers all around the city, slums, slums and more slums fulled with drug dealers who belongs to the three mafias  (CV, TCP and ADA) not to mention the Milícias which are another "mafias" the media tries to hide the true Rio de Janeiro. This is city is a totally trash. The majority of single tourists who go here for certain just come for sexual tourism, use drugs and live a life in a fast lane kind of fantasy. Fuck this place called Rio, I preparing myself to get out this living hell and live abroad 🙌🏽🙏🏽
