Terrible casting. He shifts from the character at the end of the 4th season - intense, angry, conflicted, raw - a powerful performance.
Then we get this meh - nice guy, grins and nods a lot as he tugs at his sleeves or puts his hands in his pockets. Poor put-upon wimpy Charles! There is no emotional continuity from what was built before. It goes beyond the looks not matching; the heart and depth of the character and his conflict are not there. BTW, same problem with Imelda Staunton as Elizabeth. She plays her like an old lady, out of power, a blank with no discernible inner life. The thing about Olivia Coleman and before her, Claire Foy was that even when they weren't speaking, they were reacting and we could see the emotional turmoil in their eyes and the tension of their body language. Imelda just sits there. Blank. Such a set of disappointments!

I just started watching season 5 (or rather “series 5”) and while it’s hard to get past the fact that the looks nothing like Charles, West does a great job portraying him. For his first scene I remember saying, “Who’s that? Wait… is that supposed to be Charles?” It’s distracting at first but you get used to it.

The choice of this actor pretty much spoiled this season of The Crown for me. There is no semblance, except for the voice. The choice for Queen Elizabeth was another bad choice.

As soon as I walking towards tv, turns out she actually watching The Crown. Wow... He definitely not the same man, but perfectly illustrate the correct person.

Tony Blair looked nothing like Tony but one who played his wife was very similar to Tony's wife. In the movie queen , Tony Blair was perfectly casted.

He is such a great actor that despite having no physical resemblance, I believed he was Charles the entire time he was on screen.

His look was so off and distracting. He’s much more masculine, tanned, and muscular.

Quite frankly he is nothing like Charles, doesn't look like him, doesn't have his mannerisms, just that royal accent which isn't really that difficult. But he's hot, like he could be James Bond, that's definitely why he got the job, can't say any of the same for Charles, they really wanted to make Charles not look like a hideous twisted monster.

Charles deserves respect for the work he has undertaken in this country. The Princes Trust has helped and continues to help many young people with grants and support. Yes, he had a disastrous first marriage but judge him on his work not the character The Crown ascribes to him.

During the lockdown, I checked out The Wire. I had been meaning to watch it, not just because I'd heard what a great show it was, but also because I'm a huge Idris and MBJ fan. However, I unexpectedly found myself falling in love with Dominic's work as well. He was phenomenal, so I'm delighted to know that he will be stepping into this role. I believe that he will do a brilliant job, and I can't wait to watch it.
