The GTX 970 is STILL Good Enough for People That Just Need a GPU

I've got 2 asus strix gtx 970's running in SLI.. Works great for games like GTA5, Shadow of War & Shadow of the Tomb Raider,, for Cyberpunk it takes a little tweaking with Nvidea Profile Inspector to get SLI to actually work as it should..

Was running a GTX 960 2g and that actually ran older games of 5 years fantasticLly. The 970 is double the power and outstanding in games but if you pay the latest games any cards gonna struggle

Halo is a very demanding game I saw it really makes cards struggle only high end cards right smoothly

My old GTX 970 can play all games and cad applications, and I realized that I can live even without RT.

I still have a 970 and runs just fine after all this time, plays the games I want but struggles with triple A stuff, most of which I don't play anyway. I got it used for 70 euro back in 2018 which was a bargain back then and is still a bargain nowadays.
Now that the prices have plummeted I'm going to get a 3060/3070 used, purely because I'm working on some machine learning stuff and need the extra VRAM.

Pro tip for 970 users, try 1600x900 its a gud mid ground from 720 and 1080 also turn everything down to low/off and keep textures/shadows on mid/high if u get over 100fps try adding anti aliasing into the mix , thats about as optimized as u can get with an i7 + 8ram from my testing

I found several working GTX 970s for 100 US dollars or less on ebay. They are pretty affordable, considering how expensive alot of other GPU's are (eg: 300, 400, 800 dollars).

Halo infinite is playable with a hd Radeon 7770. Look at the launch xbx one. so a gtx 970 definitely still good.

I am STILL playing with a GTX 970, to have a noticeable upgrade i have to pay AT LEAST 300€. Heck I've been playing God of War with that thing, it's just nuts.

Anyway to enable Gsync with a GTX970? I notice the option is not there in Nvidia Control Panel. 1060 works, 1660 works, 1070 works but nothing for the 970.

I run my 32" monitor with a GTX970 at 2560x1440 resolution and 144hz refresh rate and have it set at default settings. It runs just fine and everything is 60+ FPS at maximum settings on every game. I can overclock it and my CPU but why bother? The average human eye doesn't see much beyond 60FPS anyway.

After 7 years together, I finally decided to upgrade from 970 to RX 6600 XT. Passing the torch from a legendary cheap beast to the next-gen cheap beast.

Someone gave me two GTX 970 units, that haven't been used, so I guess I'll find a budget setup and put one of these in it.

Going to retire my GTX 970 after almost 8 years. Runs most modern games well on 1080p, although some demanding settings like shadow quality in games need to be lowered to Medium or Low for gameplay to get stable 60fps. Really solid GPU and I'm sure I could have hit the 10 year mark with it without problems.

I'm trying to find-out what's the ATI (now owned by AMD) equivalent of a "nVidia GeForce GTX 970". Does anyone have any idea?

(P.S. I found a refurbished HP-Z440 that is coming with a 700W power-supply and a EVGA "nVidia GeForce GTX 970". As well as a Intel "Xeon E5-1630 V3" processor (3.7GHz, 4 cores, 8 threads), and 16GB of DDR4 RAM).

I bought an auros g560m elite board with an i5-10400 cpu as an upgrade from my ga-78lmt-s2p board and fx6300 cpu.

Using this card I'm having no issues so far, playing infinite getting a constant 60fps, tarkov between 60/80 on medium 1080p valorant I get around 250-280 fps and it's buttery smooth. Looking to upgrade but honestly I don't think I will as it seems pretty damn solid

The reason it performs so well in this case is the CPU. Halo Infinite scales heavily with a powerful CPU, especially AMD. Try using a CPU from the 2012-2016 and you'll notice how heavily the GPU gets bottlenecked in this game by the CPU. On top of it DDR3 RAM. The game is optimised for the DDR 5 and 6 RAM types used in the Xbox One and Series X, the PC port only got a mediocre optimization on DDR4. For DDR3 RAM they scale it's usage down, by forcing the game to shift some parts into the VRAM, as otherwise it would not run at all. However this causes the VRAM to fill up with stuff thats normally in the RAM, 'causing for example the 970 to be forced to use the full 4GB of VRAM (so even the much slower 500MB) and may get over the limit. When you go over the limit however, it uses the RAM and maybe even your paging file, which is working but causing frame drops, insanely high frame times, popins etc.

Damn, I bought this graphics card when I was 17 and im just now thinking about swapping it out 8 year later. Buy quality, people it was a lot of money when I was 17 but it got me through HS and college for $40/year.

I haven't gamed much in years, but thank goodness I never sold my parts or my PC. Times look really tough right now, and my i5-4690k+970 hold up just fine for what I need

Great card. Mine is however dying these days.. games that shouldnt crash/freeze are crashing/freezing... and thats after alot of troubleshooting.. need a whole new rig soon..

Do they make any power supplies with two six pin connectors, or will I need an adapter? I've got one of these and an Optiplex, but right now I don't have the necessary PSU for it. Clearly the 290W power supply included with the system isn't going to get the job done.

Halo Infinite must've been patched or your framerate settings weren't optimal.
With a mix of high, med & low settings with min/max fps set to 60 I almost get a locked 60 fps about 90% of the time at 1080p

GTX 970 holds a special place in my trash can, I can't wait to change this weak ass GPU.

To have to trim down to high settings instead of ultra but playable at 60fps. I expect 6 months from now, gpu prices will come down even more so best to get a new one when it meets the right you can afford. The 970 is old and I expect it will show it's age as new titles come around I predict maybe 2-3 years it will handle only in medium settings. Though I wonder, did we peak in 3D technology?

I just bought a cool tower with this in it for like $550. I love it man. Plays all my games quite well. I don't play a lot of intensive games, though.

I just recently got a 970 pretty much given to me for my first build, hoping I won't have it too long, though this makes me hopeful that if I do become stuck with it until I can afford to upgrade this will get the job done.

GTX 970 is my first GPU. Holds a place in my heart. Might end up selling it sadly when I have to upgrade in the future.

Still running my 970 and due to the shortage I've decided to hold out for a new GPU I told the 7000 and 4000 series release.

Halo infinite is unoptimized but I'm getting 60 to 72 fps in Halo Infinite multiplayer with mostly low settings. Which is what the pros play on anyways, so that's fine by me.

Can't wait for a GPU that will let me play this game in 120 fps tho.

Got my 970 in 2015 and it came with a free copy of The Witcher 3. Best purchase I ever made.

GTX 970 alongside my 2600k OC to 4.5; has managed to hold together during the last few years; hopefully can get a bit more out of it! Definitely still good enough for those not chasing the rainbow.
