Gotta love Matt Mercer in all of his scripted glory... Can't stand critical role and I and a lot of other og roleplayers believe critical role has helped kill dnd. And we'd be right

I just started playing DnD recently for the first time, and this has very much helped me get a clear understanding of each ability score. Very helpful, a simple yet clear definition.

If you’re a new player, how do know where to put the points, modifiers, saving throws, and proficiencies? Like a brand new player. The starter books sort of help, but I’m looking for a this “goes here” guide.

I still believe nature should be a wisdom ability. It’s wild to play a low INT Druid that fails a nature check all.the.time.

ONE THING no one can explain in a way that it actually makes sense: WHY can a wizard only remember a certain amount of spells per day? it is by far the worst system regarding magic. not to mention the weird names for some spells. plus you do not need corpses for necromancy. in all the other regards we can talk about if it actually IS a good system.

I hate rolling the 4d6 method. There have been a number of times where I have the highest Stat be a 13 without racial bonus and be shit at everything because I have commoner stats. I have found On average the 4d6-1 method drops 10 over all the most. Meaning it's entirely possible that you can roll several 10s and just suck eggs for stats. You say low scores can be fun. That is until all your scores are asinine and you are literally better off not playing at all. Enjoy that 8 int, 10 in strength, wis, and con, 11 in Charisma, and 13 in dex. You aren't deceiving anyone with your Rouge. It's even worse if the DM is a tyrant about "YoU pLaY YoUr bAd StAtS." And does nothing but make you take saving throws and forces you into awkward and uncomfortable social encounters because you "aren't role-playing enough" despite having a character who would have the personality of a wet paper bag without the ability to fight out of one. "Make a persuasion check" Cool so I get +0 to that roll.

I have long been of the opinion that the Dexterity stat should be divided into Dexterity and Agility. Dexterity would affect fine manipulation, while Agility would reflect things like running, climbing, and so on.

My DM years ago explained the difference between wisdom and intelligence as a genius could explain why smoking is bad, ie carcinogens and tar intake causing cancer , BUT he may not be wise enough to not smoke. Someone wise may have no clue why smoking is bad it just is and chooses to not smoke.

Wisdom is Knowledge and how well you remember things .. Intelligence is how smart you are and how well you solves a riddle you never have seen before, it's like your smart like Loki but can't remember beeb or you have read all the book there is but can't solve a easy riddle (if you haven't read abut it before).. D&D mix that up so the have one ability score for mages and one for priest, but a true mage need both wis and int for it to be real, were int is more a skill and a bonus ability for the rest, like a rouge trying to pick a strong lock, one thing is the rouge can feel what's there (dex) but from there to figure how the lock works to be able it break it, take's intelligence, but be able to remember all your spells, you need wisdom.. most ppl think to have a high int meens you have read alot of books but that is wisdom, how wise you are, if you have a high int, you have figure out what i'm trying to say here already ;)

Having low charisma means your character is ugly or that it's just socially awkward?

Ответить
@Wolfrover
@Wolfrover - 15.07.2021 08:56

Another way to distinguish between Intelligence and Wisdom is this:

Intelligence is how much information you know. With a high Intelligence score, you know books' worth of knowledge on various subjects that interest you.

Wisdom is knowing which bits of information are relevant and which are more important. With a high Wisdom score, you know which pieces of information, both learned and observed, are likely to be important to the task at hand.

Of course, this can lead to interesting disparities. High Int and low Wis can produce characters that ramble about their favorite topics and never seem to figure out that they're boring everyone else. Or bookworms that are oblivious to the world around them. Low Int and high Wis make for a very observant character. Or someone who learned "the old ways" and has folk knowledge that's remarkably useful.
