You could argue that Leshawna was so overpowered so she had to be eliminated due to some BS cause she could lose like a regular character.

The show is a satirization of reality tv show competition it’s based off of. It is a common trend of those shows to remove the obviously most competent competitor in contrived ways. Shouldn’t it be less offensive that leshawna filled that role?

This is why we shouldn't have any other characters other than white people in shows.
People go "This non-white character is treated badly and thus the show is racist" when said character is treated like a character / not a mary sue that everyone kisses the arse of.

Or we could cut the BS, admit that characters go through crap regardless of whatever and just move on like adults.

I guess I am the one in the wrong for looking at said characters and going "That's some BS" instead of fixating on the fact that they are black and going "that's racist".

They do kind of hoe all of the characters. But since there's less black characters what happens to them to see worse. Definitely sucks though.

The reason Lashawna got voted out like that was because her real life voice actor had something going on in her life (I can’t remember if it was a family/medical emergency or something similar), so that’s how they got rid of the character.

On the other hand, Cameron and Lightning just BEING the finalists of that season was nice to see on a representation lens. I’m not POC myself, so there’s a lot I can’t properly articulate or speak on - but the fact that the finale is with them is one thing, and they are both solid characters with unique depth that drives them to win and succeed in the game. Cameron wants to prove he can take the outside world, and Lightning is so goddamn competitive and looking to seek approval form his dad (that scene in the finale was HUGE and does not get talked about enough), he can’t properly process defeat. Also makes his face turn at the end of the season make more sense, he was just never taught losing, and Final 4 he only loses to the pipsqueak-type Cameron because he literally BACKED INTO IT. I can see why his processing of that is just pure vengeance to run it back. Cameron on the other hand was a smart guy, and understood the game well to get to where he did (one of the few multi-season contestants to never be formally voted out, fun fact) - he had the correct read on Scott being shifty and not only tried to act on it the first chance he got, he never truly buckles to his manipulation and ends up 2-1-1ing Scott out of the game. SCOTT. One of the most cunning to play the game getting sent home by plurality in the final 4. Any Survivor fan will know how hard that is to do. So HIS run to the end was just as satisfying as a character and from a storytelling perspective.

Having both of these things tied in the pretty bow that it’s an all-POC finale (especially after the way Leshawna was treated in TDI… you will never meet a soul that doesn’t think that’s BS), was huge. Just my two cents. ROTI and its cast had its flaws, but they REALLY help it stick the landing.
