Not saying this guy isn’t who he says he is but the reality of bounty hunters in my experience is very different. I lived with a guy who was a mid level drug dealer in a medium sized city. He basically middle manned pounds of marijuana or a kilo or two of cocaine. He was someone known and trusted by the people it was being sent from, and the buyer, so he made money by being a trusted person by both parties. So he caught a case and his lawyer was wining and dining the assistant DA over several months to get him a very reduced plea. He was paying the lawyer $5k every month, so I don’t know if he was late paying that or if the lawyer wasn’t doing enough to please the ADA, but two bounty hunters showed up at our apartment. Looking back it could have just as easily been an extortion thing with the bounty hunter, but they talked in the living room for about an hour and they left. The next day one of the bounty hunters showed up and my roommate told me they both needed a ride. The bounty hunter was wearing police insignia body armor so that raised red flags, but I drive them out to a wealthy part of the city and they had me park on the road out of the way and they got out. So they come back in a little bit with cash, jewelry, and guns. What I found out later was earlier that day the bounty hunter took the owner of the house to jail, so they knew he wouldn’t be there. So my roommate paid off the the bounty hunter by participating in a burglary with him. I was an addict at the time so I got a few grams of dope for my trouble. My naive ass was disgusted with this being how things work, and how complicit our legal system was in it. I told my roommate “This isn’t how it’s supposed to work.” His response was, “but it is.” I lost my innocence and any sense of civic pride or duty.
