This Mini Mirrorless Camera Is The Ultimate Travel Companion

My GM1 has been my travel camera for the past 8 years, easy to carry in a jacket pocket or a small bag. Recently replaced it with the Panasonic G100, a bit larger but easier to hold and has a flip screen.

Does the smaller grip on the right have a model number? Trying to track down a black grip for mine. The silver one that i have looks slightly different with a circular shape. Or are you willing to sell yours? 😊

All cameras should have a pop-up flash. it's a legit P&S look that I love. It always generates glib comments by reviewers. /rant

That is not a leaf shutter, but rather a "focal plane" shutter. Phase detect AF is not more accurate than contrast detection AF, there is a trade off between speed and accuracy.

If ur gonna settle for 16mp I'd go for the Nikon Coolpix A, not interchangable, but packs an awesome punch with its 28mm f/2.8 equivalent lens and its 16mp APSC sized sensor

panasonic makes great cameras i had an lx7 and the pictures and video were amazing.

While it's better at some things, I'll still take my Canon S110. Nice zoom, stabilization, barely know you have it with you, great video too.

Love the video😃. I've been contemplating getting a camera for months that I can use to take good pictures and video content at the gym and outdoors. Would this camera do the job? I'm hesitant about getting an expensive 4K camera as I don't think I'll use it to its capacity. What would you advise?

At this price, I think I'd rather get a gx800 or gf6 (you could even find a gx80 if you're lucky)

Sony Nex 5 is about the same size and supports modern e mount lenses

I’ve recently sold mine, but I used it mainly with the 14mm f2.5 pancake.
Super compact, fast autofocus, great IQ, lens diameter fits as if it was designed for the camera, unlike the 20mm which sticks out on the bottom.

I still use my GM1 in holidays with the 12-32mm lens, that provides OIS , so handheld low light shots with low shutterspeed is no problem , and with the new lightroom denoise functionallity one can really improve your results as you showed. For low light indoor events with moving people/objects I have and prefer a Sony full frame camera, greetings from the Netherlands.

I love this camera. I have it and I mainly use it paired with the sigma 30mm f2.8 or the lumix 45mm f.1.7 for street photography because I have the Xf10 (fuji) and the Ricoh Griii … it is a really cute camera, and the photos are juste gorgeous.

Nice looking camera, but that lens is pretty bad, which is understandable for such a thin lens. Personally, I would not call this camera + lens combination the ultimate travel companion.

My 1inch sensor phone is lighter actually.

This crap have same size cip as moder mobile from Cina - yep not possible buy in EU/USA market for stupid people that don't use Pb is soldering ... but mobil have modren chip ;-) and yhis year is next revolutuin, only for China and JP - but is possible buy in any country, of course, only for smart people ;-)

10 yesr old chip is crap,. special in this crop factor - don't compre it with FF, don't compare it with 1.5 crop - that is modern comact like fujifilm for example - some ople like you say that fujifilm make prof. camera - yep GFX - X series is only compact for fun and is better that this- of course on ebay it cost lot lot more and is OLD - then can yeasy die

Great travel camera but build quality is rubbish -very fragile and flimsy.

Panasonic used to make amazing compact cameras. Now they make these massive cameras nobody wants to use. They were a great camera company, now they will fade away and probably divest that business arm.

I don't quite agree with the thing you said about phase detection AF being more accurate than contrast-based AF. While phase detect AF is definitely quicker than contrast-based AF, since it measures not only whether the image is sharp, but also how far the lens needs to turn for the image to be sharp. With contrast-based AF on the other hand, the camera only measures whether edges have high contrast and adjust the lens based on that. It continuously checks "is this sharper then the setting before?". This can lead to behavior called "Hunting" where the camera tries to figure out the sharpest point, slightly overshooting the sharpness point and having to dial back. because it always compares it to the previous value.
Now to the point I disagree with: Phase detect AF, while being a lot quicker, can actually be less accurate, especially on DSLRs. Because phase detect AF used to require a separate sensor (so not integrated into the actual image taking sensor), it would need to be calibrated super precisely to the distance of the imaging sensor in order to provide accurate focus. Otherwise the AF-Sensor would tell the camera "Yep, all in focus", while the image was clearly not. I've had some trouble with that on my Canon 80D with a few cheaper lenses, that I did not have when using the live-view shooting mode, which uses contrast-AF

I just bought and GX800 with 12-32 and 35-100 kit lenes for less than 200€ and WOW. Such a tiny camera with a lot to offer. Now i have it with the 14mm 2.5 and its my personal "ricoh griii" camera for edc !

What's your though on this versus the Fuji x-m1? They are both small, similarly priced, and can be used with that 7artisans lens.

Love mine. Fantastic camera. Pentax Q is a bit larger from what I understand, not that a millimeter is really a concern.

While the closest one we can get for today is the GF10

You should try out the lumix 20mm f1.7 lens on the GM1. One of the best lenses on MFT and very compact.

Used it as a second body to my X-E4 while traveling. Kept the 42.5mm f/1.7 on it. Makes it like the size of a digital compact with the zoom lens extended.

The controls are terrible, specifically the command wheel, and it doesn't have useable tracking autofocus which is my favorite way to shoot street, but other than that it's not bad.

The wheel is impossible to use without accidentally hitting the D-pad and makes it very difficult to change the aperture quickly.

If you like small manual lenses with manual aperture rings it's a great fit for that.

this days, smartphone + GCAM - is my cheap/light/portable camera.
