As someone who has only ever had the experience of playing an 88-key modern piano, I must confess that when I heard a clavichord——which, like the piano—-uses a striking to” rather than a “plucking of” its strings (clavichord with medal blades, the piano with wooden hammers) in its action, I was surprised how much more the clavichord sounds *like a harpsichord* than like a piano. The harpsichord is a stringed instrument bc of its plucking action with respect to strings, whereas the piano (or even pianoforte) (like the clavichord, I assume, is a “percussion” prrcussion instrument.
In short, the tinniness of the clavichord’s notes sounds less like the piano than like the plucking stringed-instrument action/sound of the harpsichord…

Does the similarity in sound between clavichord and harpsichord result from the very early “thin-metal-blade striking” instrument’s not sharing dampers or wooden hammers in its action, as the piano does, and despite their each being s variety of percussion?

And the piece is called a well tempered klavier , so a well tuned klavier
