I hope I am not asking something that should be obvious. I live in a very humid place so I would want to transition a phalaenopsis in moss to bark by mixing the bark and sphagnum moss. How does the presence of bark change the watering and fertilizing routine? If you water according to the bark that dries out quicker won't the moss be constantly too soggy? Will the moss hold on too fertilizer salts while the bark flushes them quicker? I've been confused about this for a while. This was a groundbreaking video thank you. 😊

I have two mini fouls and mine are growing quite well on my kitchen window very slowly just started a new leaf on mine don’t know if it’s too cold on the windowsill for them or not but when I put them back into the living room where is a little bit warmer I don’t seem to do as well so I’ve left them on the kitchen window they get a little bit of sunshine first thing in the morning for about 510 minutes and then it’s gone so we’ll have to wait and see how they grow the roots a good new growing points on them and the leaves are good so I’ll leave them alone for now until the real cold weather comes speak to you soon

🤗🤗Hi, Habari Nina! Gosh what a comprehensive video with all advice needed. I had to watch three times 😅 to digest and store all the nuggets away for future use. I grow in a bark mix with some moss. I diligently took heed of expert books saying that one should have feed solutions at ph 6-6.5 and so I also misunderstood ph charts which are about ph in the pots at which the nutrients are absorbed. So I should PH at 7 or 7.5 and vary it to 6.5 sometimes? I suppose this is even more important as my organic media in the pot starts to age. I only have three mini Phals☹️I will have to remedy that! 😁. Asante sana squashed banana, wewe twiga, mimi mfupi hapana😂🤣💕🌸🥰😘

So many consider moss to be the Orchid Killer! 😮 IMO it depends on the grower more than the moss itself!! So much misinformation out there you just want to scream!! 😫 I happen to Like moss... 😁
Great Video Nina!!! 👍🏻 Hope your day has been pleasant... Next time 👋🏻

Thank you very much for a detailed explanation covering most of the topics to care mini Phal. I am sure if we follow all these care points, the orchids will grow well.🙏

Hi Nina. Lot’s of good information. My favorite orchids are mini Phalaenopsis. How I like to repot mine is putting damp spagnum moss in the middle of the roots then around the edge of the pot I place small orchiata bark mixed with small charcoal. This way the spagnum moss is not exposed to light to get algae. Thanks for sharing. 🥰👏🤗❤️

🦒💐🙋‍♀🙌It's all there, all the information provide is very useful as so many people use sphagnum moss as medium. The importance of flushing cannot be overemphasized, being such an important step in orchid cultivation, no matter what is the medium used. I certainly flush a lot more often than I used to. Have a great SUNday amiga mia, much love to you and yours😍🥰😘💖

😂I just did a video similar to this one! And in my experience I have found the same results in repotting them into moss tightly and after a month or two I take them out to see what is going on. If new roots or root tips are coming. I repot in loosely packed moss. I did however have a light 💡 moment….flushing AFTER any supplement/fertilizer. I will start this nugget right away as I do find my minus in moss do show accumulated salts much faster than the ones in bark.

All ready to bloom mini phels come here in 100 per cent sphagnum moss.Since there is too much humidity in our place we are growing potted phels using charcoal and tile pieces as medium or simply mount them. Moreover, sphagnum moss is a costly proposition .. No doubt, the orchids which come in moss has plenty of healthy roots Nina.

I have learnt a lot. I've decided to give phals another try and I'm a new mom for the last 3 weeks. I will try to follow the repot procedure as described in transitioning orchids from one medium to another. Also I plan to try foliar spray when applying fertilizers.
Interesting lesson. Thanks

Hi Nina! I am currently growing mini Phals in a mix of sphag moss bark leca large perlite and medium cork chips in orchitop pots. They are doing great growing inside. The Neos in moss only not so great. Lost a few more fans on the bean leaf ones. I am going to repot in the orchid mix I use for the Phals. The Ascofinetia is doing great in this mix as well in a ceramic orchid pot. The moss mounds need to be changed 2 or 3 times a year. They look great but are high maintenance. Let me know your thoughts. Have a great day.

I'm not saying others should do it, but I'm terrible about flushing, even in moss. Given what I feed, it should be a problem but it generally isn't. Talking about Phalaenopsis keikis, how is the one that was in Colomi (was that Bubba Jr?) doing?
Also, I think I've learned a valuable lesson when it comes to repotting bifoliate Cattleya. Do it at least annually. I just repotted a leopoldii x aclandiae for the second time in a year and, even though I changed the type of media, the roots did not fail. Given how readily bifoliates dump their roots, I can only assume it is related to the frequency. The longer they are in a pot, the more tangled the roots become and they are easily damaged, repotting more frequently means less root manhandling. Also the water retention in organic media begins to change as time goes and I think that this damages the roots before they even come out of the pot. These are just a hypothesis, we'll see if it holds true as my amethytoglossa seedlings begin to grow out.
