'Baldur's Gate 3' Is Utterly Tremendous [Work in Progress REVIEW]

just finished my 3rd run of AC6 i can't wait to pick this up.

Larian has shown, what the game industry is able to deliver, when the player experience is in focus and not the profits!

Larian has done an amazing job and continues by providing already 3 huge patches since release and even preparing -- to my knowledge -- the Mac and PS5 ports at the same time.

It's clearly a game made for people who actually like RPGs, something the vast majority of modern RPGs, or rather 'RPGs' seem to have forgotten.

Wow been a fan for a while, but the King Cobra reference just made me a huge fan!

It's wild that you can have companies like 2K releasing full-priced games knowing they are unplayable without spending $50+ on microtransactions and companies like Larian Studios that consistently drop masterpieces focused purely on player enjoyment both in the same industry.

I subscribed because of how you set up the backstory of the game's development. Good job; the information was not the easiest to find.

The way I'd put it is that this game meshes the choices of RPGs with the exceptional story telling that a linear game can provide. Story and gameplay are perfectly intertwined. Most RPGs do not do this because if they give your actions too much weight on the story they can no longer guide you through the main questline.

Baldur's Gate actively encourages chaos and alternate situations that have consequences that carry to the very end of the game. AND THAT IS INCREDIBLE

I have a week with bg3, and it's my first time in a d&g experience, it has been haunting, I can't even do a long rest without something surprising me, it has me on my toes all the time, very difficult to understand and play, but I'm fucking loving it. The only thing I would complain ks that our protagonist doesn't speak, but its a minor thing, I don't even know baldurs gate yet and by how the characters always talk about it I'm fucking hyped, and it doesn't hold your hand with nothing, I have to constantly read guides. All in all is a very unique and special experience, can't wait to finally not being a noob😂

It be crazy if BG3 doesn't win GOTY cause of the impact is is having. Every so often we get these games that question game development and what can games accomplish and Larian has done that with BG3. I haven't felt so enamoured with a game in a while. I remember playing the original as a kid and I am getting those same feelings and how it changed my perspective of rpgs and falling in love with them.

The hype is reality, with this one, this is a Fantasy world, you will never want to leave, just wow & No fetch quests, pointless quests, just great quests & no micro transactions, they could have charged wayyyyyyy more for this game & it be worth it, the music is dope, sound, visuals are unheard of In my opinion, its just constant fun & the exploration factor is my trigger with games & theirs just so much good stuff to find & explore, its a deep game, but you can stay in the shallow end but You will get what you put into this game, its sickkkkk, easily a 15 out of 10 . Unfortunately though, I see ALOT, of people losing their wives, their jobs, their homes, everything will be gone around you, but your PC & this game, be warned!!!This game feels like a game made by players, for the players, this could be the difference.

What I do hope that other companies take away from this is that putting the effort into really making compelling, complex NPCs in RPGs with any kind of choice-based dialogue component (and really making the choices of the player matter in those character’s stories) will always be important, and that they recognize the creative conditions that lead to that kind of labor of love.

So there is nothing bad about this game? i call BS. For as many nitpicking gamers out there these days i find it hard to believe that not one person has said anything negative bout the game.

I’m speechless too. This games is so unbelievably good and beautiful I’m just so impressed. Larian was already great but after this gem.. I hope they will stay themselves and never change there love they put in games. This game gave me my love for gaming and fantasy back. Thx Larian Studios

Agreed. I started playing Starfield then BG3 came out for PlayStation and I said, maybe I’ll try it for a little while. I am mediately did not want to go back to Starfield, and saw no reason to. BG3 has been all encompassing ever since lol the game is amazing

I just find it incredibly boring. Like, mind numbingly boring. I don't want to spend half of the game in dialogue, turning it into a prettier audiobook. I don't have the patience to sit in a character creator for more than 5 minutes. Just random until something looks cool. 2 minutes, done. I love dnd and i love tactical games, but this game is really not fun for me. I just don't have the patience to waste my time on a game like this when i could be playing hunt showdown or now dark and darker...i really can't make myself care about any of the characters in the game nor the bloated ass story. I have a wife and a full time job, and the limited game time i have is worth so much more than this boring ass shit.

Anybody else getting RuneScape flashbacks while playing this game? I low key feel like I’m playing a modern adult version of it when I play BG3 and I love it lol

I've never played a turn based game. I've never heard of baldurs gate. Never messed with D&D. I tried this on a whim just because of all of the buzz. I cannot put it down. It's such an achievement of modern gaming

I named my character Darling on a whim and it just so happens there’s soooo many characters that refer to you as darling. I get called by name every time I play

I'm someone who was never interested in RPGs. I stuck to FPS games and things of that nature. But I saw all the praise BG3 got and how it made some companies start coping, so I bought it. I am not exaggerating when I say it's the best game I've ever played. The immersion, the freedom, the complexity, it all just punched me in the face with joy and fun. Larian deserves all the success they got.

It's been so jarring to go from the impossibly good Baldur's Gate III to Starfield's lifeless and bland world. If this gets snubbed for Starfield for GOTY, we'll know there's very little justice in this world.

Not gonna buy this, I am gonna buy Assasions Creed Valhalla instead xd

Unfortunately all these great characters and writing are squandered on a game focused on turn-based combat, which is like eating boredom through a straw.

Well it better be good , its turn based so the devs have way more time to work on other things... The cut scenes and story does look good.. But that turn based gameplay is not for me there is 0 immersion in this

3 playthroughs in as a good aligned character, and each one feels like I am running into shit I had no idea was there and mastering combat in totaly different ways.

Calling me out on my ADHD podcast gaming. I'm in this video and I don't like it. Anyway. As such I think it's engaging me enough to avoid podcast gaming because you do have to be very strategic in your decision-making. That awards for paying attention in a way that satisifies my need for constant stimulation. Does that make sense?

role playing games vs RPGs - very well put, it had indeed lost meaning, also IIRC you could get arrested for stealing from crates in the one of the original games - always thought that was great vs them literally just being loot crates
