I won't forgive the BBC for screwing this up. I've been waiting for a version of WoTW that was true to the book (which I've reread several times) for decades and the BBC seemed like my best chance and even they had to monkey with the time frame moving it ahead a decade or so, and force a women into plot. There tripods sucked too.

Of course it is better than the Spielburg version. Its more in keeping with the orginal HG Wells book, with the correct period, and it hasn't got Tom Cruise in it.

AWESOME! I've read the book, which was the best version and always will be. I watched George Pal's version. Listened to the album. Saw Spielberg's version. However, a period piece like this is really effective! SPECTACULAR!

I prefer this version versus Spielberg's because Spielberg's has the extra creepy detail of the main character being a member of the creepy Church of Scientology. Worse than Martians.

Thing is, in War of the Worlds, we fought them to a standstill around the coastline. Each nation with dreadnaught class ships of the era were able to establish a few miles of safe-ish zones inland. Chicago and other great lakes areas even managed to stay in the fight and keep producing steel.
