Back in late 1968, I asked a friend of mine to bring back a Seiko Watch from Japan when he went there on R&R from Vietnam. We were both assigned to the 20th Special Operation Squadron, USAF stationed at Nha Trang, Vietnam. I gave him a $100, and I told him to get something nice and flashy. All I asked was that it be an automatic with a day/date display.
After two weeks in Japan, he brought me back the most beautiful Seiko I ever saw. It was gold in a chronometer/diver case with an automatic, 23 jewel movement. The case was 12K gold back and all. On the back, the case lid was engraved with two diving dolphins opposing each other. He told me the name of the watch was "The Diving Dolphins".
He said he bought the watch wholesale for 60,000 jen at the Seiko factory, and he gave
$40 back.
This watch was absolutely too beautiful to wear especially flying as a gunner on a UH-1F helicopter and running both sides of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. I always kept it locked up in my B-4 bag and I kept it locked in a metal locker. At any rate, the watch was stolen shortly before I came back to the US in 1969.
I would like to know if anyone else might know of such a Seiko. My friend told me it was only made for the Japanese market. I have owned Seiko Watches since 1968 going on 55 years. Most of my buddies from Vietnam do the same.
I thinking about getting the green dial Captain Willard watch.

ОтветитьCool, I love the alien movies and never noticed Ridley had an actual watch
ОтветитьNice list… if I had to add one it would be “The Willard”…
ОтветитьWeres the pogue? Wow really not accurate not a fan of this page period.
ОтветитьI had an atlas, the JDM version. It was badass!
ОтветитьNo room for the much loved SPORK ??
ОтветитьThe Pogue should have been the #1 watch. It dial’s Orange color with the Pepsi ring is very unique, and could be recognized from across the room. Also, since it was the only watch that was used in space (first Automatic Chronograph in space), makes it’s a special watch in history.
ОтветитьSamurai :(
ОтветитьI have 2 different save the ocean samauris and love em both, but the Dark Manta Ray is my new favorite.
ОтветитьHere we are in 2023 and In my opinion the Samurai and Sumo still rule. I own 2 Samurai’s and a sumo and love them both.
ОтветитьSomeone with that voice and inflection should not be making videos that require speaking. This was painful.
ОтветитьThe Flighty, the 007...
ОтветитьNice watches--I have a similar one. Seiko should set all watches to run slightly fast when new--all great Swiss watch makers do this because it will slow down in a few years. Instead, Seikos machines go for extreme accuracy with half running slow when new like mine--idiotic, but today's generation wants complete accuracy when new, if possible, and Seiko must appease a populace that knows nothing about mechanical watches. All watches are slow after a few years so start a little fast, for heaven's sake.
ОтветитьThis could easily be titled "Top 10 Ugliest Watches, Ever" Seiko have really lost their way of recent times!
ОтветитьLove Seiko I own the sbbn015 it's my favourite out of my collection 🔥
ОтветитьWhy diver watch 6105 nickname Capt Willard not part of this? Heavily featured in Apocalypse Now in late 70s....Martin Sheen will be disappointed on this! 🤭😊
ОтветитьI call bullshit...no Capt Willard?? The grandfather of most of these other divers.
ОтветитьHow about 'Capt Willard" ?
Ответитьthe Willard?
ОтветитьNo Spork or Captain Willard?

ОтветитьSamurai SRPD03K1 🙏
ОтветитьWhat about the Flightmaster?! Great video man!
ОтветитьThe 55 Fathoms should get an Honorable Mention.
ОтветитьI want to own a samurai but I'm afraid that it'll look too bulky on my 6.5 inch wrist. I currently own a turtle and it fits perfectly but I know it's more due to the ergonomic plush design of the turtle's case.
ОтветитьWhat do I do to get a Seiko Ripley?
ОтветитьMonster.
