Ive been a 6 year customer. Suddenly out of the blue after buying a few domain names my account was locked as suspicious activity. I had to fight with them and send them my id, bank statements and debt card! I was so pissed. I was verified but now 3 weeks later my automatic plan renewal was blocked because the idiots in billing did not remove the block in their system - so now ALL OF MY WEBSITES AND CLIENTS are suspended and cannotbe accessed due to hostgator's incompetence!

They used to be good but now THEY ARE HORRIBLE!!!!

I just purchased a Hostgator account based on your reviews (thank you for the time and effort on the video).

Just an update Hostgator no longer offers a free website building for shared webhosting. From their site: Website Builder is unavailable on new Shared (SW) accounts; however, WordPress is an excellent alternative to these builders. The instructions on how to install WordPress are discussed in the article: How to Install WordPress With Softaculous.

I called support and they verified they no longer give a free website builder. This is pretty game changing since it was the only reason why I chose Hostgator from the review - I wanted a simple easy website builder that wasn't wordpress. I'll switch to hostinger - thanks for the video.

Well, you asked for personal experiences with either or both of these providers. I've been with HostGator for several years with their hosting my domain and a small website along with my domain e-mail, and since last year a small blog on a second domain. First of all, you can't reach anyone in the company beyond Level 1 Technical Support. That becomes a very serious problem if there are numerous or repetitive issues, and over the several years I've been with HostGator, that's a very big problem. Numerous problems, from Level 1 Support treating me like a corporate client, when I am a single individual with a technical background but little in backend server or Internet domain expertise. That often translated into a mild disdain of my slow understanding of things when I first was setting up my webpage, which is very small and for the benefit of family and friends. Other Support Level 1 staff were friendlier and that split-personality quality of dealing with HostGator Support became a true dread.

Secondly, e-mail became an issue in that I've used multiple clients for e-mail over the years with most experiencing connectivity issues or failed e-mail service comletely. In recent years when e-mail service stopped, I've heard everything from reset the user's e-mail account password (with no explanation of why that was suddenly necessary...server upgrade, perhaps) to reinstall the e-mail client to renaming the e-mail servers in the client configuration, again without explanation of cause or change. Not having had e-mail for nearly a month now, and with two tickets escalated to Level 2 Support, I was told that my DNS Server needed an MX record to redirect mail to the correct mail server, and then I was told that my e-mail servers were incorrect when they were designated in a Support call months ago. With no e-mail available and no resolution in sight, I was instructed to move to HostGator's webmail, which after a week or more also quit receiving messages, eliminating e-mail from my domain completely. Level 1 Support trouble shot my account and configuration for an hour and a half, finally admitting failure and generating my latest ticket with an ALTERNATE g-mail account for Level 2 communications to me about the problem. This was 3/23, and as of today, 3/29, after not hearing from Level 2 Support, I called Level 1 again and after a long hold was told they had responded to me. I asked what e-mail address they had used, and the Level 1 technician stated my normal domain e-mail address...the one that is failing completely and about whom the ticket was about. I practically yelled at the Level 1 tech, demanding to speak to a supervisor. He said that wasn't possible due to the supervisor being in a meeting. I then described the weeks of problems and lack of e-mail I'd experienced and how unprofessionally I'd been treated and that I expected a call back from a supervisor as soon as possible. Again, he said that he couldn't guarantee that. As a matter of fact, there is NO WAY to speak to anyone directly about a problem in how the company is handling your account and business, period. At this point, I'm quite sure that I have lost my website, since I've realized that they no longer offer the website builder in which I originally created my website.

So, I would be very careful about how positive you are regarding HostGator. I doubt I am the exception.

This was a great review video, straight facts and no redundant fluff. Hostinger now has an all-inclusive plan with web builder for even less and is way cheaper than Hostgator.. In my research I found Hostgator support to also just post links and basically seem like their reading script. I prefer phone support but find myself chatting due not understanding their accents.

Really?? Because I found HostGator support to be the worst. Their live chat was not working and I never got any answers to my question.

I think you might have misspoke at 20 seconds into the video. I thought the Hatchling plan was under shared hosting not WordPress hosting. Great video though!
