I have worked with Hazardous Materials in the past and shipping Hazardous Materials over seas for whatever reason they don't want you to ship batteries by themselves but if its shipped inside an electronic device it's okay. Now dont take my word for it 100% but i was told that they were having issues with batteries exploding or something on shipment when they were shipped by themselves.

You can’t get batteries like lithium unless it’s ground shipping. I was surprised they shipped the phone with a battery. Unfortunately lithium batteries catch fire in airplanes. That’s why phones and laptops have to be in your personal bag under a seat. Maybe one day lithium will be made better so there’s no fire risk.

So while you kept talking about how only Japan does this, you forgot about the LG Voyager and how it also had a TV antenna, and you could watch TV here in the states.

I had a F-08D! It was given to me back in the days where Docomo basically forced you to take a phone with your contract (I had a sim-unlocked moto-G). It was so surprising how laggy it was. Like even for the most basic of tasks it was just almost unusable.
EDIT: The reason a lot of the apps likely don't work is that those shortcuts are often first shortcuts to download these apps from the app store (maybe the docomo app store thingy?). Those are likely lost to time. Though some people did archive various APKs

I remember seeing the Japanese phones on my first trip to Japan in 2007. They all looked so cool. But the UI sucked because you were pretty much a slave of the service provider. Everything was severely locked down.
