Very enjoyable and informative video.
ОтветитьSorry I'm only just now getting to watch this video and someone may have already commented on this, but having been in marketing, I've always insisted on clients knowing where their ad dollars are being spent and tracking which produce results so they minimize wasted money on ad campaigns with minimal returns. To do this, we give every ad source a different, but similar link (or code for offline ads such as billboards or print media). The online links would be a temporary redirect that would take them to the intended target, but only after recording which ad source they came from to a database. There are companies that specialize in tracking ads in such a manner, or you can put code on your own website to do this. It may not detail which ad directly correlates to a wish list, but it can at least track click throughs from your various ad sources. You can also drop a cookie so you don't count duplicates. I would typically put one that expires after two or three days. Again, not fool proof as some people may block the cookie, but it does reduce the number of false additions from a person clicking on the ad, hitting the back button, clicking on it again, etc. while still capturing a person seeing the ad again in another session several days later and then deciding to click through again. These are what are known as impressions and click throughs in the industry.
Some advertisers will try to get your attention listing a large number of impressions, when they are really capturing multiple repeated views by the same person where you really want to pay more attention to the click throughs instead. For instance, in one application I worked on connecting businesses with their customers, we captured views, prints, and shares (further separated into email and social media) for their various specials and discounts. While views were good, prints were the best indicator that the client was reaching their intended audience.
In your situation, while repeated views might generate more interest over time, these numbers can be easily inflated such as being seen by an irrelevant audience. What you want is to have the right audience seeing your ads and that is better tracked with the click through metric. While many advertisers will track this for you individually, using unique links and a service for grouping (automating) this information can save you time and money in the long run. I haven't been in marketing in a decade, though, so I can't give you a list of tools specifically, but it shouldn't be too hard to put one together, or again, code your own. Hope this helps you and saves you some time and money in the future.
Hugo! Hugo! Hugo! Thanks for being so transparent about your journey. I bought your Course with GameDevTV when it launched on their. I hope you do more course, because you have an audience. Even if just shedding light on what it really takes to develop a game.
ОтветитьOr it was triggered because I said that "Corporation of Everything Good" made a lot of lay offs due to you know what restrictions against you know what country and as a result market going down.
ОтветитьP.S.:
I'll just throw a few things and you try to answer for yourself if you can do it right away (usually you have just enough time to answer on interview).
Binary tree + binary search, bubble search, hastable.
Can you cover edge cases? Can you make it thread safe?.. So, yeh, 250k is not just "I can code". Moreover it's probably L5 engineer so you need to know a lot more stuff besides programming and on top of it drive activities inside the company.
So far you made 5$ just from this video alone from YT if we interpolate it by the numbers you show on screen , and you got other videos with more than 1 mil views this one has about 5k now. It's only stacking from now on and is good passive income, given your games have moderate success you live pretty well in Portugal.
ОтветитьMaybe work more on you website make it modern and more appealing could bring you more traffic
ОтветитьYou can better track your FB ads, if you send the traffic to your website first, and then just put button that leads to the Steam Store. This way you can put a pixel on the button, and see how many of those 13,294 clicks, actually made it to the Steam store. You will also want to filter by Unique-Outbound Click, bc just regular "clicks" will take into account all clicks on the ad, and not just those that clicked on your link.
ОтветитьDude. You look AND sounds like a fucking AI. WTF?
ОтветитьNo
ОтветитьCongrats Man!Succes is subjective. For me you did a great job developing this game for only 7 month.
U deserve a break
This was great, no waste of time, pure content. Thx
ОтветитьSteam has UTM to track where the wishlists come from :-)
ОтветитьThanks man!
ОтветитьIt is stupid to compare your optimal earning potential to software devs in Portugal. I work as a freelancer from Hungary and I have a super chill job for 500 EUR per day. (Translates to roughly 130k per annum)
If you made multiple games that means you are exceptionally smart and you could make 200k++ easily. If you created a linkedin profile now, you could get a 130k job within a week.
Sure, as you said, money is not everything. Sometimes I wonder if life would be more fun as an indie game dev, but I wanted a family, a house, and things like that and that do cost a ton of money.
Não sabia que eras de Portugal, que fixe, isso dá me um pouco mais de esperança de ter sucesso cá haha, bom trabalho!!
ОтветитьHoly shit, you're so hot, lol. Making game devs look good: disciplined. smart. AND attractive.
ОтветитьHave you thought about releasing the game for mobile/Tablet? Android and iPhone?
Ответитьgreat vid man, thanks for sharing!
ОтветитьMake more nice courses! I totally love your nice Udemy courses! I'll buy them all. Also 2D would be way nicer than 3D. And intermediate or advanced is very nice.
ОтветитьI don't always share your views on some topics but I have ton of respect for your professionalism and dedication, being open like this is a great insight into the Indie Gamedev Industry. Thanks!
ОтветитьI hope you enjoy living here in Portugal!
ОтветитьYour voice/accent is very similar to one of my work colleague who is originally from Portugal :D
ОтветитьThanks for showing the behind the scenes and actual numbers. Could you go a bit more in depth on the costs on a future video? Do you a specific platform to hire people to do art stuff?
ОтветитьI decided to leave a nice job to pursue gamedev and I'm not entirely sure if your video scared or inspired me more. Fingers crossed for your future projects ✌️
ОтветитьRegardless of the money, do something you love and enjoy :)
ОтветитьThank you for not clickbaiting!
ОтветитьCongratulations on 500k subs 🎊 👏 💐
We are always with you ❤
Great video, thanks for all that info! Can always rely on you to make videos that are straight to the point!
ОтветитьHello code monkey. really detailed overview and thank you very much for the infomarionts. it was very interesting! amazing video :)
ОтветитьThanks for being so transparent! Also, seeing your perspective on money and making games was refreshing, you reminded me that you don't have to make a hit, you can just make games!
ОтветитьThanks for being transparent about everything, really helps those interested in the field to have grounded expectations <3
ОтветитьI didn't notice you were recording with facecam, really cool!
ОтветитьGreat video. Many thanks for the honesty and complete transparency of your whole project!
ОтветитьNot sure if you've explained this already somewhere.... but you said you've never had a "real" job?! I'm curious how you/this all began? I'm new here, so sorry if that's too probing of a question or if you've already talked about your start. Thanks for your time and such a transparent video! (:
ОтветитьThanks a ton!! Do you have any video covering the business part such as having a LLC, best way to deal with taxes and such?
ОтветитьWell-done🎉.
Folks, for obvious reasons, some costs would have been left out on purpose or aggregated. But always factor and forecast your legal costs, tax and, markups and buffer too.
Taking home a self achieved wage is a great success feeling and for many "normal" jobs and careers don't have nearly as much security risk, expeses or overheads.
Kudos for transparency CM 🎉
Did you have any costs with servers? Is the game online?
ОтветитьYou are the fittest gamedev I have seen 😆
ОтветитьThis is my first time seeing what you look like.
You're OP dude! You need to be nerfed 😆
Would you use "FEEL" again? I found it to be really neat at first, but eventually took it out of my project because it's so bloaty. So much hidden info that requires lots of clicks to expand everything to figure out what's happening
Ответитьmine has been in the works for over a year (it's an open-world RPG, with skills and other stuff going on behind the scenes), and I am literally nowhere near completion... It's a VERY, VERY HARD game to develop, but it will be worth it, when I finally bring it out of the dark to the light
ОтветитьI made a mobile game by 2 months. Mobile Brick Breaker. I completely ignore marketing and invest 0$ on it. I upload it on play console. I think it will give me success after some months (100+ installs after one week). Will you please Give some tips for a mobile game developer for making it a full time business or I need to move on pc games. I love you bro😊😊
ОтветитьHey, I really like your breakdown type videos. I also wanted to ask if you made the steam capsule art yourself or did you hire someone else to do it? If so, how much did you spend on that?
ОтветитьThe fact that you make games makes that your tutorials are actually usable in making games rather than the cheap and quick tuto badly implemented that some people post daily and can’t even explain what they are doing
Ответить
