Exercise for the above the knee amputee strengthens the gluteal muscles (butt muscles). Strengthening these muscles will improve your overall posture especially while standing. It will also help your ability to get up out of a chair, ascend stairs and slopes. Most importantly it helps the wearer stabilize the prosthetic knee while walking so that it doesn't buckle.
