I already know they're not hiring me, no follow up required.

Hey, on 4th December I have given last round(Third round) of technical interview with director of Engineering at one of the company also already cleared two technical rounds and in last round only one question he asked and gave answer correctly after he asked for current and expected CTC and then lastly he said HR will call you for next process so in how much time I will get the call from HR....?

It can be quite painful when the HR folks literally ghost you after the interview session.
If it's unsuccessful, notify the applicant so that he/she can move things on instead of having to wait indefinitely or being cut loose w/o realising.

Helloo, if they say "you are on the long short list.
1st company has selected 6, next company will look at next 6 people.
OK" what does it means ? It is negative or positive feedback for me ? Thanks for the answer.

Hi! I had an initial interview with the recruiter and I was told my info would be passed to the hiring manager for an interview. He even told me the interview would consist of 2 ppl on Zoom but it's been a couple weeks and I haven't heard anything yet. Any advice?

What should I do in this case? I have completed two rounds of an interview and received a message stating that I have passed the interview. The HR department was supposed to contact me regarding the salary and job offer within 7 days. However, it has been almost 10 days, and I haven't heard back from them yet. Should I contact them myself, or wait a few more days?

Got a message like this within 24 hours of the interview:
"Hello, a quick note to let you know that our client enjoyed your meeting and they need some time to assess the candidate pool and decide on next steps. Will keep you posted."

How long should I wait before following-up?

I am at the 4th scenario, and it does feel worrisome since I don't know or have much feedback from the internal recruiter. But faith tells me to calm and carry on with my day until the news comes - so I shall do that and wait without nudging the recruiter. Thank you for your sharing.

Question: I haven’t really been dealing with the recruiter. I honestly don’t know who the recruiter for that team is. The hiring manager reached out dl directly. I had my initial interview with her. Then she referred me to her team. I interviewed with them over a week ago and am looking to follow up. Who do I reach out to? You say not to go over recruiter but there wasn’t one involved directly to my knowledge. Shouldn’t I reach out to the hiring manager? I don’t want to upset her if this is the wrong move. Thanks

I don't allow more than 2 or 3 weeks time on a interview process! I'm not spending 4 to 12 weeks to get hired for a job! That's way too long to wait!

Hi! I had an interview on Wednesday, July 13th, and I thought it went well. After the interview, they said the next step would be that the program director would contact me by July 27th. Do you think it's a bit lengthy to wait 2 weeks after an interview to hear back? should I still send a follow-up email after a week even though they told me I would hear back by July 27th?

At my company I applied for an internal position last year and it was over a month from when I submitted my application to when I was interviewed, then an additional few days from interview to job offer. This year the same thing is happening. I applied for an internal position a month ago, nothing yet. I asked the HR recruiter if there were any updates and they said they haven’t started interviews yet. It surprises me that companies wait so long in this market. Isn’t it difficult to find quality candidates right now? Surely quality candidates aren’t waiting months for one position. In my case it doesn’t matter so much because I am internal and have a job already, but it’s shocking to me that no interviews have started. I am hopeful that the hiring manager is just busy with other things and already knows he wants to hire me so isn’t rushing it ;) lol!

Question:
I just interviewed last week 3/4 and I felt like the interview went well. They were complimenting my responses, asked me when am I available to start, the interview felt conversational, they went into detail describing the job duties (felt like that they were trying to hype up the job, even though I already liked what they were saying), and they asked for my reference. They said that the job should be starting mid To late April. I haven’t heard back yet and I’m anxious. How soon after this interview should I follow up? Given the timelines. I wanna know if I got the job or not…I’m unemployed and I’m hoping for this job. I have been applying to other jobs as well but I really want this one.

And what about no answers at all?
I get it it's a job and job can be filled up and crazy, but as a young candidate in this last 3 months I've gone through multiple interviews but only 1 interviewer actually came back to me and said "Hey, I'm sorry but unluckily we found a better fit." in all other cases even after 1 or 2weeks they haven't told anything, and even after I mailed the recruiter to ask politely how is it going I never had an answer.... now that's so frustrating and feels like there's 0 respect for my time involved in that process and interest.

Things may be very different if your skills are in high demand. In that case you may be pestered by the recruiters and have other opportunities to deal with.

If a job seeker have been informed that he/she have successfully completed the first interview and the next step would be to either go through a 2nd interview or get selected for the position. How long should he/she wait before following up with the recruiting manager about the next step?

@alifeafterlayoff how about a video on handling multiple applications in progress, what do you tell each recruiter about the other applications. Also, how do you deal with having an offer, but you want to wait for the other applications to run their course too - what do you tell the other recruiters in the meantime.

So I had three interviews one with the company recruiter, one with the manager, then the manager's manager. This was three weeks ago. I followed up and they said they liked me and think I would be a good fit. They are working through things internally. Would have something for me soon that was a week ago. Now I have interviews at two other companies with managers. Do I let the first company know?

I wouldn't say external recruiters are agents on the candidate's behalf. They are more like acting for the hiring company's interest. If they represent more than one candidate, they could play them off and say things behind the candidate's back if they have a preference. That's why it is best for companies and job seekers alike not to engage the external recruiters cos of the conflict of interest, they don't usually know what to look out for in a candidate most of the time anyway.

It's difficult to know how long to follow up sometimes, but after around 1-2 weeks it is certainly worth doing by then. Government positions are notoriously slow when it comes to hiring people as they have to jump through a lot of bureaucratic hoops. I've applied for jobs where they invited me for an interview more than a month after application. After that, you have only a few days to prepare. But then after the interview you must wait a month again...

Great video! I was once headhunted on LinkedIn for a "casual chat" at a local company (well it was a good train ride away). I turned up, had a great experience, touring the office, having a go at the job and being coached a little. Then the managing director invites us to his office. All going well until he asks me point blank if i am a qualified x. I was not, so i said no. The "casual chat" turned pretty sour after that and i never heard back. If they had wanted a qualified x they should have asked before i went. 🙄

My experience with recruiters is rather poor, 99+% of the time. I get ghosted by the recruiter, the recruiter gets ghosted by the client company, etc. I reach out to recruiters and get no response, or they tell me they got no response. Nothing. It's hopeless.

Thanks for this video. I’ve been to many, many interviews and in most cases there was only 1 reason for a recruiter or hiring manager not getting back to you quickly. It’s because they didn’t want you. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but more often than not, that’s the case. Every hiring manager will know within minutes whether you’re a good fit and whether they want to hire you. To take longer than 24 hours to get back to candidates with a simple copy and paste rejection e-mail, is unacceptable and shows a bad work culture. You wouldn’t have wanted to work from them anyway! The recruiter will get back to the successful candidate and forget about the rest. Harsh, but 100% the truth!
