I was at Abu Simbel just a few days ago, in mid September 2023. It is amazing to think the original and most other sites in Egypt were dug up after being covered totally or partially by sands over a few thousand years and the ground we were walking at or the tombs/burial chambers we walked in had people building them and walking on those same grounds/stones three to four thousand years ago. All of the various sites are impressive to say the least but to think of Abu Simbel being moved to higher ground in such a delicate way with each piece weighing tonnes is doubly impressive. Our guide mentioned several times that historians and archaeologists believe that only about 40% of the ancient sites in Egypt have been discovered.

They are lucky nothing disintegrated once they cut it and began to move it. It really is remarkable that they were able to do this. It is mind-boggling. Moving the facade is one thing, but how did they move the interiors of the two temples?

How hard would it be to move everything once again should the need arise again?

The men who did all this are just heroes. OMG they cut the entire monument by hand.

Have the scientists exhausted themselves looking for any other Antiquities along these walls before the reservoir was filled up

I’m curious about the broken piece .. how come they left it on the ground instead of fixing back from where it fell

Humaity working so hard and yet what will become of us when the time comes and earth itself will be one with it's creator. Will we bring it all up with us to the stars if we are present still? Will some other species doing the work for us?
Sometimes I wish I could step in the future and come back but at the same time I don't want to know because not kwowing keeps us all going.

Dumbest thing to do is move this. Simple idiots. Move it for what? It was put in that location for a reason. Humans are the dumbest creature in the entire universe.

Why didn't they repair and put back the fourth head ? I mean if they are going to make a fake mountain and chop up this temple why not go all the way ?

This amazing site should have not been moved or touched, it should be left in its original place, too bad they didn't figure out a way so that the water wouldn't cover the original place
