Judo Throws in MMA - A Study of Karo Parisyan

You have produced one of the best Judo-centered videos I have EVER seen (and I've seen a lot). Wow- just wow. I am blown away. A million thank you's my man.

He was my second coach, after Tim Creduer from TUF 9. Tim was a douche kinda. Karo was a legit amazing trainer and a solid dude that really helped me out with my game and also offered to help me out in life (which I wish I would have taken him up on, looking back). He answered me on FB just a year or so ago and said to hit him up if I'm ever back in LA. Solid guy.

When i left the gym under unfortunate circumstances, i asked him to grab me and throw me as hard and fast as he could while my girlfriend took a picture. He galdly obliged. It was WILD, how i saw floor, ceiling, floor, celing, then BAM! Landed on my face. Developed fhe camera film (this was 2005) and it was just him and a massive blur, couldnt see me at all 😂

Such an awesome dude. And his lack of hesitation to throw me when i asked just made me like him that much more. I wish he could see this comment.

He showed us how far Judo could take you in that era of MMA, he was as good as they get when it comes to judo and he did alright but proved that judo wasn't even enough back then to be the best. Ronda came along later but i don't think female MMA was even as far as male MMA was when Karo was fighting, she had more success than Karo because of it. MMA caught up to her fast too, judo is good to know but the best mma athletes have to have all the skills.

Judo has been crafter over 1000 years in Japan for its Soldiers, Prison guards and Police officers. Ofc its effective at controlling someone

A Japanese Judoka used Wake Gatame in MMA. Which broke his opponent’s arm. Maybe do a video on him. Also do one on Hidehiko Yoshida.

Judo has always had no-gi throws and was always effective in it. Jigiro Kano would have his younger students train no-gi before they learn gi.

No gi judo is just judo but with underhooks and clinches

I sat with Karo's father through UFC 46 against GSP. His dad hated the fact that Karo was up against some heavy striking, being a judoka I completely understood his feeling. karo fought to settle on losing the contest. It was quite the experience to share with his father

This is very cool stuff,I've met & trained with Karo as well as Ronda Rousey, & kayla Harrison & those 3 showed that Judo is very effective in mma or for that matter s street fight! I'm a kudan 9th degree black belt in Judo & I've been doing it since I was 5 yrs old! I tell ppl all the time that grappling overall trumps the fighting world & how it's important to know it for self defense but alot ppl don't understand it. I had the privilege of being introduced to Masahiro Kimura as a child & received my black belt under him,he's the greatest Judo player/practitioner of all time in my opinion as well as alotta people's! I tell my students what he always told his students imagine your in a street fight & your most likely gonna be on concrete & you throw a person & come down on them with all your weight with it! Ouch uh yeah that's a wrap,done & over folks.

Ive been looking for something like this incredible job. Ill be throwing this video in the face of wrestlers and bjjs during my heated debates with them when they disrespect Judo.

I'm watching this after the Islam machachev vs olivera fight judo is very underated when it's done right they will say its pure wrestling or judo hence why judo is not popular today bjj has far better marketing.

Judo and boxing go well together because of the footwork involved. Even some kickboxing to, but that is simply my opinion.

I think so much of this stuff blends with wrestling perfectly. You see so much "wrestling" in judo, and tons of "wrestlers" using traditional judo moves.

I feel like the most common judo throws I see in mma by non-judo guys is just Uchi Mata and Harai Hoshi. Cub Swanson hit a slick Harai Goshi on I think it was Denis Siver? Off a single leg defence

I'm in long beach CA and your going to have a hard time finding a judo school.....and if you do it's 2 or 3 classes per week with very odd hours....I'm just getting back into bjj and I'd love to mix in judo....I think a ratio of 65/35 to 60/40....but it's just not available smh

Even if you master it, I wonder how many of those thousands of techniques of BJJ you will be using in a real fight or tournament...

I feel that it will be more effective to master all the moves of Judo instead... both for a real fight and MMA tournament....

But I may be wrong. I wonder what everyone thinks...

Being a HUGE fan of judo and doing it for a bit Karo was my mma idol. His no GI judo tapes are great if you can still find them. I have them somewhere 🤣 time to dust them off 😆 awsome video man. Not a fan of Ronda but a video like this on her would be good.

Judo got dissed for quite a while in UFC, until Judokas started winning. There are now several up and coming fighters with black belts in Judo, and it’s gratifying to see Judo getting the respect it deserves. Currently, the Atom/Straw weight division is getting rocked by a very young fighter, Hirata Itsuki, from a Judo family. She’s been blowing through opponents with her speed, strikiing and first-class Judo skills. when it comes to takedowns, Judo is king.
