After 14 million sales and five previous generations, 2017 saw the introduction of an all-new version of the Volkswagen Polo. And it needs to be good.

This time around, the new VW Polo will have to contend with tougher competition than ever before – and it comes from both inside and outside the VW group. From outside, the new Polo will be released alongside an all-new Ford Fiesta, and the VW group’s similar-sized VW T-Roc crossover SUV will surely add to the pressure. 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift
The brand new 3rd generation of the of the best selling Swift from Maruti Suzuki India driven in petrol and diesel avatars. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift also adds the automatic or AGS to its repertoire from the start. It's the successor to the Swift, the second-most popular hatchback in India. It was launched at the 2018 Auto Expo, with prices starting at Rs 4.99 lakh for the base variant and going up to Rs 8.29 lakh for the top-spec trim (ex-showroom, Delhi). One could argue that the Swift brand is so strong in India that even if the car turned out to be critically flawed (spoiler alert: it isn’t), they would still shift tens of thousands of them each month. Now, while we’ll evaluate it on every parameter like we do every car, we also want to see if it has inherited those particular traits that have been intrinsic to every Swift. These traits are more about character – the way it looks and the way it drives – but they’re a crucial part of the package.
The new Swift comes with the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor and output figures of 83bhp and 113Nm are unchanged too. The on-road performance though is a lot better thanks to the lighter chassis. The motor is responsive and has a linear tug from low engine speeds, which makes it great for city commutes. In fact, the motor’s drivability is really impressive and you can get away in third gear from as low as 20kmph without any judder or vibration from the motor. This engine revs quite freely and when you arrive at the 6200rpm red line, you hear a nice sporty snarl. Even the 5-speed manual gearbox is crisp and snappy to use. The light and short throw allows you to execute a quick shift with just the flick of a wrist, and this reduces the stress on the driver even further. We managed to strap our Vbox timing gear on the manual petrol variant and it returned some impressive figures. Zero to 100kmph is executed in a quick 12.26 seconds which makes it much quicker than the outgoing car and even drivability test time of 13.09sec for 20-80kmph in third gear is impressive for a naturally aspirated petrol motor.
