Hi Jon, That is not quite right about the HD and SD resolution result.
You are only explaining the HD and SD monitor. But one important part is the graphics card. If you are using the HD monitor, but your desktop computer that has the motherboard graphics is standard graphics. You won't get the HD resolution, unless you install a HD graphics card which performance is high speed and high resolution, then you will get the HD graphics resolution. In order to get the HD graphics resolution, you need to have both HD Graphics Card on your desktop computer and HD monitor.

Your camera does not justify HD resolution. In SD picture looks almost the same as HD. You can see difference only when you watch high quality videos made with quality cameras and lens. For example MKBHD videos.

Back when camcorders were SD, it looked really good on a crt tv. DVDs also, if you play them on a crt tv i thinks it looks pretty nice.
