Is it “normal” to prescribe suboxone for someone who has had a benzo addiction and used used an opiate for sleep twice in a row while in benzo withdrawal and on a low dose of benzo during titration?

If it hadn't helped me in controlling my involuntary movements I wouldn't be taking them !
I don't think I like the other effects.
I don't understand why there's people who are taking them for pleasure! I don't understand anxiety as a disease, either...
If I could quit them, without the hell of being withdrawn, I would have done it. But it's terrible to lose control over my movements. Far worse than the delirious state, that's the side effect of tapering... but I guess I could kill myself, if I didn't have the possibility of just taking the substances I need to get on with life.

Dr. B, could you do a video or even comment on the effects of Benson's on your heart. I am finding almost no information on cardiac problems with withdrawing from my ativan.
I do have underlying cardiac issues, left bundle blockage and cardiomyopathy and during my withdraws my blood pressure goes up to very dangerous levels (seems like my whole nervous system and cardiac regulation just goes haywire). I am recently out of the hospital from cardiac ICU, very scary. Any advice on this, my psychiatrist doesn't have a clue and my cardiologist has never seen this before.! ! ! I fear heart attack/stroke as this is not the first time this has happened to me

Am I missing something here?
I take 3 5mg Diazepam a day.
Never had a desire to increase. Never abused them. Would never consider coming off of them just as a diabetic wouldn’t come off of insulin
I am a hard working farmer that works from sunup to sundown.
Diazepam has helped so much with my crippling back spasms while helping social anxiety and general anxiety. This allows me to be present in my life.
Nobody. Not one person I work with would believe I take a benzodiazepine. Not one.
It’s just my medicine. Been on it for 13 years now.
To take me off would be to kill me.
If you abuse this stuff then you’re giving people like me a bad name.
These medications aren’t for everyone but they sure are for me.
Alprazolam didn’t help my back spasms and made me tired. But did help the anxiety (from war) but I knew Diazepam was longer acting and would help my back and be a medication that saved my life.
Benzodiazepines are ok.

You should be fair and tell people about the cognitive dulling, emotional dulling, sexual function destroying, weight gain, often sedating effects of the lovely "first line treatment" of antidepressants. I should know, I've been on literally nearly all of them for panic disorder. I mean, parnate is great for anxiety so long as you hate sex and sleep, love headaches if you get a little bit of tyramine from somewhere and don't need to take other medications. I've found benzos (alprazolam+diazepam combo) to be much cleaner. 15 years and no loss of efficacy once on an appropriate dose reached. Thanks to scheduling changes in my country, I'm basically forced to wean off alprazolam now. A totally destabilising event brought on because as more than one psychiatrist told me, benzodiazepines are frequently "overly demonised" by the medical community. A big thank you to all the abusers who caused this medical backlash and are ruining the lives of legit patients.

YES, it's a wonder drug for sure, HOWEVER, the results of a study out of Taiwan says that benzos increases the chance of getting various forms of cancer and that Klonopin increases that chance the most of all benzos, look it up. It (could) mean that those with anxiety have more of a chance of getting cancer with or without benzos, but food for thought nonetheless.

I’ve been taking half a milligram of Alprazolam 2-3 times per week for years which has been incredibly helpful for my sleep problems and have never experienced any negative side effects. During periods of high stress I sometimes temporarily increase my dosage frequency and during times of low stress, such as going on vacation, I reduce the frequency and this has worked very well for me. I am trying to limit myself to two doses per week and sometimes skipping all doses in a week so as not to build a tolerance which I’ve noticed happening somewhat when taking more than two doses a week.

What are your thoughts on more selective benzodiazepines that target particular alpha subunits? Or partial agonists of alpha 2/3 subunits like bretazanil? I'd also imagine that compounds that target the delta subunit of GABA-A receptors could be useful alcohol substitutes.

I had been on 2 mg of Klonopin for 20 years. Had ECT treatment for depression (six sessions), it made my anxiety worse and did nothing for my depression.. Am now on 3mg of Klonopin a day. Some days i can get away with 2 mg. I usually get interdose withdrawal after 5-6 hours. Depends on the manufacturer and how the pills are manufactured.
Most generics do not meet the bioequivalence requirement set by the FDA. And they can vary wildly from manufacturer to manufacturer.
So I am most likely going to be on benzo's for the rest of my life, and I'll probably get dementia from it. They are linked.

I have a lot of spasms ever since i was a kid. After being on high dose benzos and mthadon. The government did the crackdown in 2017 and i was unable to urinate and was terminated. Cold turkey of my meds and redflagged so i couldn't get the proper help for 5 years due to the financial part of getting help. I wanted to try mushy after reading john hopkins study and my parents called the cops. I was very cooperative with them and all they did was give me a felony on top of all the pain im in.
I can barely pay medical bills so there was no way i was getting a lawyer. Its horrible and sad.society makes me sick

DR, B.I'm 45, and I have always thought from being in my 20's that it's a GABA drug the same as alcohol, and when that GABA and Glutamate balance goes out , even with an alcoholic, it causes panic and anxiety. Is this wrong?

For anyone rlly needing a benzo for high anxiety levels try get your hands on pyrazolam . It has a unique binding affinity to the gaba a2 subreceptor which is mainly for generalised anxiety . Study say tolerance and wd mainly comes from the A1 receptor which causes hypnoses and sedation . There are like 6 or more sub receptors . Pyrazolam in low doses only binds to this a2 receptor . ❤

For anyone struggeling benzo addiction make sure you get put on diazepam and taper that as slow as you need . Buy Nac supplement or anything causing decrease in glutamate over activation . Gaba pentin/pregalabine may also aid very well without them coming addictive . Stay away from thc unless you absolutely don't get anxiety from it , either way i would not smoke weed . Avoid caffeine , go to gym and eat healthy .

I've been prescribed 3mg Clonazepam for 5 years. Dose lowered to 2mg for next 6 yrs.
2 yrs ago I noticed I was forgetting people's names and things like a trash can. I would look at normal every day things & couldn't remember what it was called.
I was 58 then. Tried getting tested. Too young. Have to be at least 65.
9 months ago moved to Northern part of Florida. Better Drs. Memory worse.
Saw new neurologist for epilepsy. She said I have early onset dementia & wanted to do testing. I see a psychiatrist for memory testing even though I already see a psychiatrist. They know how to get around this. My neurologist knows of 2 medications that can slow down the progress but needs test results 1st to see where I'm at.
I think it's from long term use, high dose of benzodiazipine. My psych Dr now isn't the original prescribing Dr
3 months ago I decided I want off Clonazepam. Did 1st taper.
Cut . 50mg/day
So take . 50 three times/day.
After 1st day depression lifted. I felt great.
At the 2month mark, almost to the day, I started to feel nervous, hands shaking so bad hard to hold phone, feel anxiety real bad.
I see my Dr next week. Doing another taper at my request.
This is very uncomfortable, inhumane.
There should be detox centers for benzos only. Stay as long as you need
My gosh Medicaid pays for Methadone every day of the yr for ppl addicted to pain pills, heroin, etc. Benzo detox patients wouldn't be there forever. They don't belong in mental hospitals for sure.
We need to be treated like human being, the same way pain medication patients are treated.
Us patients can tell someone exactly how to run the benzo detox centers.
