Ranking the Best and Worst Sierra and LucasArts Adventure Games | Cannot be Tamed

I love Mask of Eternity so much. I feel like it's greatly underrated. For people who haven't gotten far in it, it really does have puzzles (lol) and it uses them in often-times creative and non-arbitrary ways. But it's not perfect and I'm not surprised where it landed.

Day of the Tentacle is S tier!

Great video, I can say I 95% agree with your raking with the exception of King’s Quest V - I do agree that Cedric was annoying but I have such a personal fondness for it that I’d put it in the A tier. But again, just personal preference and not anything wrong with your own opinion. Thank you and keep up the wonderwonderful work you’re doing!

Space Quest and Quest for Glory are my two favorite Sierra series. Awesome comedy, tense moments, and interesting stories. King's Quest was good too, but I always felt like it was the most frustrating series.

The bias towards typing-based adventure is understandable. But I gotta say it was pretty satisfying completing Quest for Glory 2 that way. I felt so accomplished lmao

QFG4 S tier for sure!

Escape From Monkey Island was the biggest disappointment. I am curious if you played that and what your review would be?

Gk3 is my all time favorite.

Really nice ranking and pretty spot on if I remember them correctly. Especially how bad moving to 3D back in the early 2000s caused the genre. It was a very rough ride for many genres who made similar mistakes during the transition.

Interestingly enough, the best LucasArts, and arguably one of the best Point & Click adventure game of all time is not on this list.

Day of the Tentacle marked my childhood and I think it's pretty as hell. I think it's very underrated and should be up there in S tier, but I can understand people thinking it's just A tier. But B? No way. Also I think you're missing an Indiana Jones game, Fate of Atlantis?

I like how she unapologetically called out King's Quest one. It's terrible to go back to as a new experience. Bravo for your honesty and bluntness on it's dated, awful gaming experience it provides. Yes, old Sierra Games sucked... dead ends don't belong in good adventure games. Text based adventure games are dreadful. Great points, bravo...

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade B???? How dare you!!! This is an easy S!!

I definitely recommend picking up the eXoDOS collection if you love old adventure games. They all work great on modern systems and most are either cracked (no copy protection) or include the info you need to bypass it, plus all games include manuals and other info that came with original games plus are configured to run perfectly.

The reason why KQ1 was so iconic is that its the first PC game that used hacked graphics.

Prior to KQ1 PC games looked like.. S***. What KQ1 used was to hack the text mode to use all the available colors making it look more like, if not better, than other games of the day.

So despite popular belief, KQ1 is actually CGA. (just like original larry)

KQ4 and LL2 was in EGA... or rather PCjr/tandy graphic (there was very few game in true EGA). KQ1 was later remade with this engine.

Later when VGA games came around, there was a similar situation. IBM first launched MCGA as a 128kB 256 color grapics mode. This later evolved into VGA, but a lot of games, specially early once, was made for MCGA (that could also be shown on VGA).

This is a list I by large agree with, for much the same reasons. Gabriel Knight 2 stands out for me as the only FMV title I actually enjoyed. I did like the 3rd better than I thought I would, once I got past the terrible graphics but that was probably due to having very low expectations to begin with. Quest For Glory V was a disappointment as it was really ugly after how gorgeous the 4th game was. I thought QFG3 would be a low point but in hintersight there were things I like with it, such as how you connect with all the NPC's. It really feels like a "party" in the end. I optioned to play the QFG2 remake instead of the original and it was a very fun experience for me, I really enjoyed it. I was rooting for Larry up to the 3rd game, but after that it got into a repetitive formula.

Thanks for the ranking, I really need to check out Gabriel Knight. You should try the Conquest series! Conquests of Camelot has the best EGA graphics IMO. I know that sounds odd, but it's gorgeous in its own way. The game is fairly straightforward, but with a nice Arthurian atmosphere. I still haven't finished Conquests of the Longbow though, but I hear it has a good story (based on Robin Hood). Other games that I enjoyed include Colonel's Bequest (Roberta William's best IMO), King's Quest 3 and King's Quest 4, and Police Quest (my first ever adventure game, I played the original with horrible CGA graphics).

I loved Zak Mckraken. One of my favorites. Loved it so much.

Quest for Glory 4: Shadows of Darkness is the best!

Im a text parser purist. So, my tastes are going to differ. But, only ones that really hurt were Full Throttle and DotT. Both the highest of S Tier IMO. Pleasantly surprised by Curse being very highly ranked. (Which i think most would not)

King's Quest V same.

If yoy have not playd Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. You just have to play it. Its the best Indiana Jones game ever.

Strange thing to see Larry III at the same level as Larry IV after complaining that IV is the low point of the series (it is) and telling how third part of the series got you on gaming... And Day of the Tentacle only B?! I think we could have a long civil discussion about that =D

On another note, how do you feel about the new Return to Monkey Island, did it live up the expectations, what tier would you put it on?

Being that Curse of Monkey Island is my all time favorite game, I approve of this! I'd put some games a little bit higher, or lower, but all in all it's a good ranking!

Some of my favorites are Darkseed, Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender and Under a killing Moon.
