A Spherical triangle and a Cardioid on the surface of a unit Sphere

Think about this: What object cuts a sphere to make a Cardioid? How to intercept a sphere to make that triangle? (Sure you created this object in way 'A', show way 'B'. My guess on the trace of the tri: a very thin saddle.

Why not just use the purple line that is connected to the orange line, rather than using the other extra 3? What is the purpose of the other 3 purple lines?
