I know I've made a lot of comments but amnesia works really weridly especially when you include the fact it was artificially taken away. For Nozomi the mastermind chose to let him keep his knowledge but not his memory. Another thing about amnesia is when it's caused as close to normal as it can get sometimes it's not amnesia but rather an injury or bad memory that made their brain whip away the memories or rather lock them away until they're willing to remember it. Number 3 amnesia may only apply to certain times in a persons life past present or future. 4 there are times where it is just muscle memory even someone who forgets their memory will still have knowledge even if they can't remember the future or present if someone with amnesia solves a puzzel everyday or every few minutes they will have the knowledge of how to solve it without the need to remember how to solve it, meaning if it's only the past Nozomi doesn't remember because Japanese is his first language it has become so much of a muscle memory having to speak and write it everyday and in general experiencing Japanese culture it has become second nature to Nozumi so not having a least a little knowledge wouldn't make any sense. The thing the characters should be questioning isn't his knowledge of Japanese but rather how he remembers his name. Even people who don't have amnesia if they have bad memory or experienced a head injury or had a bad memory or any really effecting their memory these people including me have a hard time remembering names sometimes heck I have terrible sad memories plus a bad memory plus a small head injury i don't have amnesia despite this and still manage to forget my, my friend, my family members, my clasmates, anyone and everyones names, my own name I will forget sometimes,the fact Nozumi just shows up and is like I have amnesia but but my name Nozomi Miyuki, is such a red flag at least in my opinion.

Quick thing when you cut of a limb there are weapons that don't need you to saw the bone due to speed, weight, or strength due to this there is a chance she might have done this on accident is she had a weapon like this for self defense being in a gang school it would make sense for her to have a dangerous weapon if she thinks it is best for self defense it did say she got attacked first

the name etymology of this cast is quite interesting, sometimes funny and might have hints to the story!

Mayu Ego: true superiority + basket creek - by the kanji used, this should really be pronouned Ma-yu Eh-ka-go, but even in the Hangul it reads Ma-yu Eh-go. Probably so it can be read as a pun to mean "My Ego" and the the kanji on mayu being "superiority" and "true" makes it even better lol
Hiruto Iwada: daylight constellation + rice paddy - conveys the idea of an ordinary but lucky person, so his talent
Nozomi Miyuki: growing late + snow moon - so "Nozomi" might reference his late appearance and the loss of his memories (late in knowing)
Hitomi Tadaira: the hiragana for 'eyes' + multi-flat - I think her eyes being closed is important, she might be blind since it's a common way to represent blindness in anime styles
Kotori Fukuoka: little bird + lucky hill - there's a possibility its referencing the saying "a little birdie told me" meaning a secret that gets found out...
Misaki Kuzu: beautiful flower + trash - basically, she's beautiful trash, or perhaps saying like she's a beautiful person despite terrible circumstances
Rikka Kizuki: six flowers + hurt castle - two interesting things happening with the surname here - "hurt" will she be a victim? and 城 . This kanji can't be read as just "ki", there's 45 combos of kanji to read as "kizuki" that I can find and 傷城 isn't one, but that's what her name is in the Hangul and English. 城 can be read as "kizuki" or "kizu" making 傷城 kizukizu or kizukizuki. I think they chose the kanji for the alternate pronunciation "shiro" meaning white, given her design but then her name would be Rikka Kishiro or 傷白 which isn't a surname that exists. Very confusing, 10/10 love her tho
Rintaro Tomoe: ethics/companion plump son + comma: 倫 if read as morality is reassuring, it might just mean he's a good guy, but read as "companion" with 太 as plump or thick it kind of. gives sexy vibes? in a weird way. 太郎 is also in words like "puutaro" and "akutarou" meaning vagabond and bad boy, so again, sexy companion.........I'm feeling a tragic backstory coming on if this is intended
Rion Mikawa: justice & grace + three rivers - sounds like he might be helpful in a trial or that he's a really kind person (but you can't even trust kind people in danganronpa so) and three rivers might refer to him being sad and crying a lot (exaggeratedly so, since you only have two eyes for tears to 'stream' from
Satsuki Kanna: fifth month + distinguished god - I think I have a guess for who the mastermind is... but it could just be talent related?
Shoji Shinano - shining child + undiluted truth - however, 濃 (no) can also be read as dark, meaning there would be light and darkness to him. Perhaps he's a bad person under the bright personality... or perhaps he's the undiluted truth? That could also refer to his talent since he's always documenting with his camera, however influencers generally are seen as 'untruthful' in that some edit their lives to portray certain narratives
Ukyo Sarashina - right capital + ??? - okay so the kanji 康秘右京 reads a Kanhi/Kohi/Kokaku Ukyo. 康秘 would mean ease and secret. But, his name in Hangul and English is written as Sarashina. There is no way to read 康秘 as any of those sounds, I don't think. I'm really confused. The surname Sarashina can be written as 更科 which means "deepen culture" which would reference his talent as calligraphy is traditionally important art in Japanese culutre, or written as 晒名 which means to "reveal [a] name" which could make sense if Sarashina were a fake name and 康秘 the real one. But it could just be a mistake.
Erika Jumonji: clothes & add & village + ten & literature & words - her surname is a reference to her talent
Hiyori Tsubaki: sun harmony + camellia - red camellias can symbolise death (uh oh) or love. She could just be a really nice person. 'Sun' might also be because she has red hair lmao
Justin Blade: righteous + blade - yes, Justin means righteous, it literally has "just" in it. He is 'justly killing criminals with his blade'. imo if they took the time to do etymology for the other characters, they did for him too + its in the Bible
Satoshi Shitanda: enlightened history + four anti-rice paddies - Shitanda is a name associated with some Japanese artists. Shitanda in Swahili (which they might have come across the meaning for because there have been several famous Shitanda's like Muyaka Shitanda) means problem, which could reference his talent as a puzzlemaster. Shitandayo in Japanese is a colloquial version of shitanodayo, which means "I did it" so connotes completion, solving, achievement like his talent again

Anyone else notice that Misaki has was looks like a tear drop tattoo under her right eye? Figured that was an interesting detail with its multiple meanings, one being that the wearer had taken someone’s life.
