The Differences Between The Metal Genres

Epica is not gothic metal, they're symphonic metal. If you want gothic metal then bands like My Dying Bride, Moonspell, Type O Negative, Draconian, Paradise Lost, Theatre of Tragedy, The Sins of Thy Beloved, Tristania.

Old Septicflesh is gothic metal too, they're more symphonic death metal now.

My top five sub-genres of metal are:

1) Folk Metal (Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Alestorm, Celtian)
2) Power Metal (Sabaton, DragonForce, Gloryhammer)
3) Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Axxis, Pegazus, Helloween)
4) Melodic Death Metal (Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy)
5) Symphonic Metal (Xandria, Illumishade, Seven Spires)

This video does a great job of showing the core stylistic characteristics of each genre in really short clips! It's also great how the clips chosen are very distinct from those of other genres, so it doesn't get confusing. No words, no problem.

Metalcore is the best Metalgenre.

actually cpncerning the desc speed metal is proto thrash and is more aggressive than nwobhm or power metal so bands like Exciter, Agent Steel, Acid and Cranium would be considered as such but i would not lump the genre with power metal nor would i ever consider Dragonforce speed metal by any means

I mostly listen to mainstream metal genres-Heavy,thrash,power metal.I dislike so-called extreme metal because those extreme subgenres are the reason many people dislike metal.
