Just look at it from this angle. 17 year old girl knows what she's doing too. All these women align themselves with her because they dream of doing it some day. And modern feminism will allow it with 0 accountability. So if this happens in reverse the man shouldn't go to jail either.

I realize I'm late to the party watching this on Hulu. I often miss things in movies/ shows. In this episode did it seem like Claire was trying to lay the first few bricks of the foundation to reunite with Eric? In the grocery store Eric sudden leaving cut off Claire's sentence of "We should....". Back at her father's house it seemed like she was already mentally distancing herself from her current family. Husband sits down and she gets up to move away, sneaking a middle of the night text, staring at wedding band while waiting in restaurant etc.. I'm not getting caught up in fictional people. It just seemed this lunch meeting. A person like Claire her motivation was something different and after Eric's anger/ pain was shown the apology was plan B.

Both had mental issues of their own, for Eric, hardly a mother figure at home, father figure left after he was young, Claire a woman who lost her mother young and father didn't step, AS WELL AS, marriage issues, her whole life was basically a train reck. Both knew what they were getting into, he is 17, old enough to reason, he was warned, she new it was wrong, I mean I am sorry for what he (or her) where going thru, she is not the main reason his life is ruined, Eric hardly had a proper functioning family at home, he was TOLD not to go forward with it, in my opinion Claire is NOT the reason he will have an unhealthy lifestyle, she is ONE of the reasons. People should stop ignoring the effects of trauma, it can start young but if ignored the effects are devastating, that's why we have streets like LA, Compton, drug users, even me and you, might experience the effects but you won't know, trust me I know. So please lets stop playing the blame game and isolate people from society, it only makes the situation worse for future generations.

I was never believed when the same thing happened to me. Eventually, the teacher was finally caught. I went through years of personal torment and failed relationships because I was blamed for the relationship, not understanding what it was.

I hate to think of the victims that followed because I wasn't believed. In fact, I became a teacher to protect students and have taken down some teachers that had inappropriate contact with students.

Like the victim, I saw my attacker years later. He was trying to privately tutor kids. I warned the parents and was believed. Thank God for Google because his mugshot is still up. Saving those potential victims was an experience that I'll never forget because I took back my power.

all those times Eric looked in the mirror and said ‘i’m the man’ i felt like he was just convincing himself that what was happening was okay…you can see it in his micro expressions..
In fact there are lots of little moments where you can see Eric felt off …like when he came back home after prom and his mum asked him how it went, initially he looked troubled..
Even when she took him to UT, he was like ‘haha are you kidnapping me?’
And when she took him out of prom…I mean how dare she, she robbed him of a rite of passage, he should have been partying with his buddies - and Claire only cares about getting with Eric when she sees him with another girl - her feelings aren’t genuine…

The way the simpleton is talking is like he’s a 12 year old or something. And 17 he’s old enough to join the military and get deployed overseas and go to war.

I don’t feel sorry for him. He knew what he was doing. He was just listening to his other brain.

I don’t blame him, she’s super hot fiery redhead. Plus Kate Mara. Yeah all day.

But he’s trying to have a pity party? He’s a whiny little brat.

What really happened is that he wanted a mature woman because he got tired of high school girls.

A lot of men, when they are younger, they seek out older women, because there is a maturity level there, experience, knowledge, it is sexy.

Sometimes at that age, you get tired of going out with girls who just throw up in the bathroom after playing beer pong.

Bottom line they both screwed up, but for him to play the victim is BS

This really shows the lasting effects of sexual assault on boys and men. After watching the first part again I see that because Eric is portrayed as a caring, sensitive person a teenage boy like him would be very messed up by an affair like this. But if it is a teen who is more callous, self absorbed and less sensitive this would probably not be as upsetting to that teen and man later in life. I do believe it is the job of a teacher to maintain their professional integrity with students no matter what and draw lines at the first sign of any lines being crossed. Like the diner Clare should not have bought the shakes and fries and Eric asking for a ride. Clare should not have driven him home. Even asking for tutoring it was a slippery slope early on to engage in that she should have referred hm to someone else.

Eric also kissed her without her consent (the first time) in a classroom where she didn't have anywhere to run. He likely would have been suspended/expelled if Claire reported him like she should have.

Something I loved about this show, was how abruptly the tone changed as soon as Clair told the other teacher that she had a relationship with a student. It suddenly stoped being "romantic" and "dreamy" and got real. This show really nailed the tone and storytelling.

Shocking thing for both of them is they didn't realize until now how much this affair ruined each other's lives. I didn’t like this ending too much because in reality therapy is suppose to teach you to forgive. Also, Claire isn't denying what she did was wrong. She even admitted it to her estranged father through tears.

That sentence of "I saw my brother today, he is the same age i was, seventeen, and he look so freeking young. I was just kid". It hits so hard that alone can resume the hole series. I loved this series. It hits you pretty hard and it quite disturbing to watch as someone said 90% of the time. But I think its important to highlight more of this, because it happens out there. Grooming are never ok, and as parent you should always stay alert, most of the time its someone close to the kid or family, one you never would thaugt of!

Great series...but on the cuote "I was a kid" I do not agree...when you are 17 YO you are not a kid anymore (you are nearly 1 yeas away to be able of jail in most countries)...you are capable of horrible things if you want, like sexual assault. She is guilty, yes...but he was not a little kid.

My only issue is that it comes across as tho he takes ZERO accountability for HIS actions or had any free will. Yes, he was a minor and her student. As she states, the responsibility was on her. Yes, she created situations. However, in those situations he did everything on his own free will. Obviously she should be the only one held accountable for her actions by the law and society too. No one should blame or shame him, but for him to remove himself from all accountability rubs me the wrong way. He was 17, not 7. All I'm saying is I excuse my decisions as true child because well I was child, the world is new and we're ignorant about so much at that age. As a high school student, we know better about these things by this age. To say otherwise is just straight up denial. He shouldn't feel any guilt about what happened to her or himself because again, she's responsible for what happened. All I'm saying is he should recognize he made incorrect decisions to grow as a person. After all, that's what she was unable to do. Everything else in this scene was great and well said.

This show could have been very problematic if it weren’t for this being the resolution. Because Claire manipulated him from the moment she offered to tutor him. She knew exactly what she was doing. She moved the relationship forward and made Eric feel like it was his idea instead of hers. Her taking him to UT outside of school hours to show him around and going to a college PARTY with him while they were there was wildly inappropriate, and she knew that. I was so glad they had Eric finally confront and admit to his abuse in the end, because abuse was exactly what that situation was.

I think she asked him to meet her for the same reason she started grooming him in the past. She was and is married, bored and craving for attention. She thought he would act the same way that he did in the past, but he is a grown man now. And now he knows he was a victim. Great ending to a very good show.
