I honestly feel better mentally and physically when I'm on an opiate regiment. Hopefully they will realize the mental health benefits and open this medicine up so it can help a wider population. There are many accepted medicines that are addictive, and most drugs have a lethal dose. These are not legitimate reasons to prohibit a medicine, especially one so helpful. It deeply angers me that people who are trying to medicate themselves are persecuted so vehemently. This nation claims to be the land of freedom but this hasn't been my experience. End this senseless prohibition, it's nothing but flagrant hypocrisy.

I became dependent on opium in my early 20s. This was before Ebay banned the sale of dried poppies for "ornamental purposes." The terms "cold-turkey" and "kicking the habit" actually come from the withdrawal from the primary alkaloids in opium: morphine, thebaine and codeine.

i didn't have medical insurance when i broke my arm , but i knew a gardener who grew some and they saved me till i was able to get medical treatment , i extracted the sap when he left the house ,dried and smoked it, i was house sitting , its not legal where i live but i was desperate i had no other choices . the USA where the only legal way is to pay . never used it again , and now i am allergic to all the legal pills they make from them . his garden was for beauty only .

Some people don't get any good feelings from opiates. I just feel crappy, like a bad hangover. But they do help with pain and i do experience physical addiction if i take DHC (severe pain) for a 3-4 days. I need to ween myself off with Tramadol for 2-3 days. But i could never take an opiate for fun or to feel good. From what i have studied, 1 in 8 Caucasians are like that. They have a different metabolism that prevents a high. So, as i see it, opiates are just another case of everyone paying a price because of some. Which is not right. It's a personal responsibilty as i see it. If you are dumb enough to get addicted to something, it's your problem, not mine. I shouldn't have to bear any responsibility for your irresponsibility. Once, i tried cocaine, and i was willing to sell anything and everything for more when i came down. And i decided it was poison for me, and i dare not touch it ever again. But that doesn't give the govt permission to take millions of dollars from everybody to kill people in Bolivia. The worst thing about opiates IMHO is constipation. They completely halt your digestive system. I've read cases of addicts that didn't defecate for 6 months, and had to have their large intestine removed because it became a huge solid mass. In that regard, opiates are kind of disgusting 😊

All four of my grandparents used opium to treat their arthritis in their later years, all four were thus unusually physically active because of their lack of pains, and all four enjoyed a high quality of life into their late 80s/early 90s.
