i love digging through my stash of art/craft/sewing supplies every few months. it feels like christmas as i rediscover things i have forgotten about lol.
ОтветитьWonderful! Thanks!
And..
Esp. for metallics, what about Kremer? Any thoughts on those?
My husband is 80 and still had a set of pan paints from his school days - so about 70 years old and completely dried up. (They are Page London). I recently started spraying them with water to loosen them up and in fact they are now usable. I'm amazed! Glad they didn't get thrown away. (Love your videos.)
ОтветитьI looked at the Artsy store on amazon and also found Himi gouache …
ОтветитьI absolutely love this. It inspired me. I also love palettes, and different art supplies. It is soul enriching. Never feel guilty for passion. It makes you soar. 💖
ОтветитьI’ve just discovered you and you are awesome! I think I’m definitely someone who could be a watercolor, palette collector…. I definitely understand the joy you have with them ❤
ОтветитьMy mother used to collect girdles. I like your collection better.
ОтветитьI watched the whole video and thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!
ОтветитьI am curious about Kuretake…do they normally fill their half pans less than half full?
ОтветитьThat was fun. Your into sounded like people had been judging you harshly over, of all things, Palettes.
Ответитьthis was fun, informative, and yes, cautionary, I have a tendency to collect things silly things salt and pepper shakers, a particular brand of blown glass Christmas ornaments, not Radko, but similar, and until THE 1989 earthquake in the SF Bay area, teapots with the matching cream and sugars if available,, the florist put different arrangements in them and they looked amazing on all the tables at my first wedding [it was very small, 40 people], in my parents backyard, when I was a teenager it was pin back buttons, mostly political, but some with snarky sayings or jokes
ОтветитьI have the fan pallet you call the cell phone, the Superior 60 count in mint green. It cracked do much that I finally put them in quarter pans and shared with a few friends.
I do have a question, not sure if it was this video or one of the other ones I've seen. I saw you mentioning the Sennelier La Petite came damaged. I've had to replace mine twice, Amazon order, and they are still coming damaged. 20/24 of the halfpans are out. If I keep the next one they send do you know which, if any, half pans fit in the pallet?
Thanks in advance.
Thank you for this. I'm ending up as a pallette collector myself. 😂
ОтветитьLindsay!! I loveeeee your collection ❤❤ this was a joy to watch! I was wondering how your collection has been over time? Do the paints still work well? Have you had any issues over time with any of your paints? Thank you!
Ответить2.5 days later, I got through this video!!! Lol, and I loved it! Trying to figure out how I'm going to justify cost to the wife!!! Watercolor is like buying gold!!! Even empty tins can be pricey! Now I understand the wife's plea to pick only two hobbies. I'm looking at having to drop skating, to become a full-time artist. I already dropped music, so I no longer have instrument up keep costs. The things we allow ourselves to justify cost... I still have photography and skating cost. However, photography can rollover into my painting... Skating... It's very freeing, since I no longer travel. I was just looking at a group of friends that host skate traveling meet ups... If they'd only asked me 20 years ago... Then, I'd probably never had met my wife, or purchased my homes. Cause I'd be so in debt racking up cost on traveling.
ОтветитьP.S. Not a good influence however, during this video I put 4 things in my amazon cart!!! Not helping with the art supply hoarding here!!! LMAO
ОтветитьLOL Lindsey, although I don't have nearly the amount of watercolor palettes, I am also an art supply hoarder... you are certainly not alone!!! I need to have all the things!!
ОтветитьSo which Fan Palette did you ultimately recommend ultimately - I am sorry I got a little confused. As I want to buy one, but not sure which way to go...?
ОтветитьLove that you shared this, the very first video I ever watched of yours was you using water color to paint flowers for a card that you were making, a long long time ago ❤
ОтветитьI really enjoyed this and learned a lot! I think I might become you someday, lol. I need a suggestion of a pink I can use to tone down Daniel Smith Opera Pink. I love the color, but it's just a little too bright. I have Quin Rose and Quin Pink, but neither is quite the right shade to blend with it.
ОтветитьOMG I enjoyed every single minute of this video!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьThose Russian artist watercolors are White Nights, not White Knights 😅
ОтветитьI missed bits of this palette review here and there due to life, but appreciated the information I was able to glean from it. I'll probably go back again at some point and rewatch to see what I missed. I did want to say however that you should never feel guilty for your collection. You use your paints. You do reviews, you advise others based on your experience with different paints etc. Geez I mean you are an artist. You seem to be a very frugal person in other aspects of your life, so don't beat yourself up and don't let others do so either. If you get hateful comments, screw them, some people are just miserable people. Enjoy all you want for as long as you enjoy them or think you'll find a use for them and never get rid of them until you want to. Don't let mean spirited people rob you of your job. Thanks for sharing!
ОтветитьI bought the JDMM watercolors and I hated them, lol.
ОтветитьLOL, you really are an addict...but I can think of many more harmful things to be addicted to 😮 so thanks!
ОтветитьThank you for that. It was a lot of great information and much appreciated ❤
ОтветитьI love your collection!! Do you have any holy grail palettes that you are forever on the hunt for?
ОтветитьOh Lindsay,
I know this is an older video, I’ve been watching in sessions. Your very polite rant re white vs buff titanium really made me giggle my thoughts exactly 😂😂😂
Loveee this video. I’m not very good at watercolors, yet I collect them. I’m drawn to the gorgeous colors and packaging. I’ll keep trying to master this difficult medium. I’m more of a gauche & oil paint painter yet I don’t collect them crazy I know lololll. Thank Lindsay so relaxing watching your great videos.
ОтветитьI sent for a Mikador immediattely, 54 colors. I didn’t think the colors were so intense. Some colors were and others were wishy washy
ОтветитьFantastic!! What great watercolor Palettes!!
ОтветитьI love water colour palettes is my thing and gauche can't get it enough hours in the day to paint and I have so many Ideas that I get excited to paint
ОтветитьThis was a great watch! Sadly, I bought another palette IN THE MIDDLE of the video! And it wasn’t even one you featured! Nor was it a brand I know! It does have a sweet little tin palette and some good looking standard colours. What sealed the deal was a long, detailed, intelligent, specific, even-handed review, with images including swatch with pigment numbers and lightfast ratings, plus 3 paintings. When I clicked on your video I felt I could safely watch. I mean, I KNEW I really did NOT need, and cannot really afford, another palette! Huh!
By the by, I think you might change your impression of the Art Philosophy (Mungyo) paint if you had the Terrain palette. ;0). It was my first and got me very excited. The palettes are underwhelming, it’s true, and I should know because I bought 3 more. lol. I have discovered that the ease with which they lift can be used to my advantage in abstracts as I can lift large areas even days after they were painted.
Anyway, thanks for a terrific video, and it looks like my addiction is still active ;0)
Love this tour of your palettes. I collect palettes too, but I figure I don’t go on holiday, or have other expensive habits, so we all do something to bring a little joy right? As an artist I get curious about other brands because paint making is an art. And like you say, they can always be used by someone if I don’t use them all. I would just say for your viewers new to artist grade paints in the UK Winsor & Newton will be the most economical paints to buy since we left Europe. Some stores have very good deals on them in the sets of 18 & 24. To give them their due they work at every level and are balanced. Not as exciting as the offerings from Daniel Smith but then DS is very expensive here. Another paint maker gaining traction here is Jackmans, beautifully crafted paint for the artist, and their repertoire is expanding. I’m itching to try them!
ОтветитьLove seeing this. I am new to watercolors and am enjoying collecting so your descriptions are great. We are kindred spirits, God bless.
ОтветитьWhat a wonderful collection with such a great history also! I think it is so cool how you have been collecting for more than thirty years! I love looking for unique containers to use and you have some great ones.
ОтветитьI’m new to art and I appreciate water colour pallet talk.. 😀
ОтветитьThe only people who complain about what brings others Joy, are very bitter inside. I LOVE seeing palettes and things that bring others joy!
ОтветитьI’m with you, Lindsay. I collect all sorts of material for creating art - including fabric and gadgets for quilting which take up a lot more space than your palette collection does! 😊
ОтветитьInteresting to see that all your Grumbacher Academy dried up, just like the one I bought a couple years ago. I have some from 35 years ago that I bought at my college bookstore when I first used "real" watercolors. The pigments were terrible back then! But they dry in the pan so glossy and rewet so well, they must have been full of wetting agent. They pan up beautifully and the earth tones are still useable.
ОтветитьFinally catching up with some of this massive video. Cracking up and 100% agreeing with your lightly salted comments on Daniel Smith. They were my first paint brand and local to me, but I don't buy them any more unless there's a special reason because they are, as you say, "sketchy as heck" about the Primateks.
ОтветитьMan kann gar nicht genug Aquarellpaletten haben, ich habe auch die Schränke voll und benutze alle!!!
ОтветитьAhhh I do love that you are an avid collector. It makes me feel better about my own obsession. They are just so …. Pretty and so fun to play with. I have everything from crappy pallets that I still love to high end things. The first time I tried a professional pallet , I couldn’t even believe it. I was so used to digging to get enough color. The professional lines you barely needed to touch at all to get intense color. Not only do I collect watercolor palates but I am also a paper addict. I feel like you can never have too much paper. I spend all of my extra money on art supplies. I don’t go to restaurants or movies or buy clothes or coffee out or anything else. Art is the one area I let myself spoil myself. I also spoil my senior pup. She can have the best everything she wants as well. Art and my puppy. That’s all I really need in life. Art supplies is much cheaper than therapy. That’s how I look at it. 💙🦋
ОтветитьI bought one of those fan palettes years ago when they were advertised everywhere online. I barely used it until recently and I was surprised at how good the paints were. I haven’t experienced any cracking of the paints at all. I think I paid about $15 for it. I’m so happy you referenced them in your video!
ОтветитьI absolutely loved watching this video. Gives me many ideas on making travel sets. I already have the Jerry q, clover style palette, and an empty koi palette to fill. I also like 1/4 pans to add to pans with extra space, I just have to add magnets to keep them in the palette. I would prefer to have the marker packaging that you used.
ОтветитьI would to see a video using your Rosa gallery paints. I have their Romantic set and am in love! Wish all half pans were wise like that. Their body reminds me of Roman Szmal paints.
Ответитьlinsay what did you use to stick yhe shimincke full pans into the plastic palette 1.22.22 time stamp
ОтветитьI’ve watched this three times it’s so much fun!
Ответить
