Sugar is an addiction, I think you completely miss the point that a gradual reduction of sugar is incredibly hard for most people.

Especially because sugar cravings only really goes away when the sugar intake is very low (under 20g).

You don’t produce ketones purely because you eat fat, you need to remove carbs.

The one thing I’ve never understood with this doctor is… his info appears to be great… but he’s overweight himself… clearly he is not able to control his own cravings

Despite the headline, this video proceeds to establish the great usefulness of ketosis. Those with insulin resistance find ketosis quite useful. Guess what... fat adaptation is "ketosis".

Can someone quickly tell me if you get “fat adapted” through intermittent fasting 16/8?

I’ve lost 13kg (28lbs) in 4 months doing ketogenic diet. I’m in ketosis for 2 weeks then I go a week out of ketosis to reset. I’m finding it quite easy to maintain so far.

Dear doc,

You're overweight, you have clear signs of inflammation in your face. The way to bet is your liver is about 25% fat, leading to visceral fat, leading to your observed inflammation, an obvious sign of insulin insensitivity.

You're not healthy.

Heal yourself, then give me advice.

Intermittent fasting worked for me. I jump on whole plant foods for a month then jump off then back to light meat with one cook meal a day and other foods are raw, fermented or dehydrated dried.

How should you transition, how many carbs at the start then how much to reduce by per day so you dont get the keto flu.

About ketosis. I was a carb addict for years.... exhausted, stressed, anxious, terrible sleep, no energy, no motivation.
I started eating better and cut virtually carbs. Once I was in ketosis...OMG my energy level went way up, I never got hungry. The brain fog lifted.
It did take time. Used ketone stix to check my ketone levels. I felt so much better! I was just generating a few ketones from a fatty diet. I was on full on ketosis and I was not over weight....
I apologize, the title of your video seemed to say ketosis doesnt work.I hadnt listened to it yet, just read the title and got pissed because I know better. You do seem to say diets arent good. Ha! What you eat is your diet. There are good snd bad diets. The reason most dieters dont lose weight is because the starve themselves, lose some weight and then go back to the way they ate when they were fat. To keep weight off, you have to eat a healthy way ALL THE TIME... you cant revert to donuts after you have lost weight, you’ll just get fat again...and likely more fat than before.

I love being in ketosis. I feel so clear headed with consistent energy running on ketones with the extra cognitive boost from BDNF. Nothing like it.

Thank you DR. For those of us on a very low carb diet the best indicator of fat adaptation is lack of hunger? Related question: if you are high insulin (starting position of most of us who have eaten high carb sugar diets for prolonged periods) how long does it typically take to bring insulin down? I'm guessing that takes years. Because I've heard Insulin Resistance takes years to reverse.

Ketosis is not the ultimate fat burning process to strive for. It's beta-oxidation. Ketones are produced when true fat burning has not yet been achieved and ketones are the excess products from an incomplete metabolic process. When true fat adaption occurs there are very few circulating ketones. Ketosis is tantamount to beta-oxidation for beginners. Ketones can be measured in the blood. The byproduct of smelly breath (acetone, as in nail polish) and brain fog etc. will disappear when full fat adaption begins.

Keto flu or your body is going through sugar withdrawals because sugar is a drug..? I've been doing a high fat and intermittent fasting lifestyle for 4 months and I lost 40 lbs and I feel great.. The inflammation in my body is nearly non existent.. Your body won't use your muscle protein for fuel first.. If you do fasting your body will go through autophagy and eat up cancer cells, viruses and bad bacteria before ever touching your muscles because the body is smart.

You posted this video 3 years ago and I only saw it today!!! I’ve been doing KEto for six weeks now and only pst week something amazing started to happen to me. I feel completely different exercise wise, but I’m stalling in weight loss currently. You’ve pinned some things for me here for which I am grateful. Please can you tell me what to eat once I’ve become fat adapted so my body uses it’s own fat stores!!! I’ve been eating fat but want to shift onto les fat so I start to lose weight.

Technically I’m sure there is some merit to what this supposed expert is suggesting. But as with many experts in the nutrition space, he totally misses the fact that we are all different so these generic rules don’t necessarily always apply. But the real issue I have is when someone starts a video off by lying to you you can’t really take the rest of it that seriously. The claim he makes no money producing content that is directly related to his profession is Very stupid because we all know it is a key part of the business model nowadays. It is very simple. You don’t need a doctor like this only putting in non-processed foods, eat considerably less, exercise more, try eating between 11 and seven and then maybe you’ll go a day or two without food because you appetite will drop. That’s all you need.

I do wonder how these numbers and effects compare to something like a 5:2 diet? I think I’ve read that with fasting it takes around 40 days! to get fat adapted. Compared to months, that certainly sounds better but i don’t know details of the fast. Hence my question.

What it seems like he is saying is, keto sucks, but if you stop eating carbs and sugars you will go into this amazing state, where your body will burn fat, and you will be in a ketosis state? Like talking in circles to a falsely titled video? Am I wrong please someone explain what I'm missing here? Thanks

This is something to consider. I have been on full food for about 18 months now, and hit a weight loss plateau. Waist measurement is slowly inching downward again, having stuck with home made foods. One just needs to be sustainable with the project, and mind hormones carefully.

I am in permanent ketosis.
Still alive because first stage 4 lung cancer gone 7yrs .
Now have 6 brain tumours (shrinking) gave me 3wks.
Going on 5mths and getting stronger, few mental issues though.
Cancers cannot use ketones as a fuel - not a high fat diet now but still maintaining ketosis.
Also lost 60kg weight. Insulin fairly consistent 4.2/4.5 bgl.

So basically start with high fat, then low fat/low carb/high protein while loosing weight.

How long by guestimate - would it take before having to switch to low fat/high protein?
