the graphics still hold up to this day. What a fucking achievement. This game was running on computers that had clockspeed of around 100mhz on a single core.

How is quake any different than doom? It looks lawsuit similar.

in earlier FPS games such as Doom, the characters are pixelated and their animations are in 2D. Quake is probably the first FPS game where you see a full 3D content.

why did they remove weapon thrusting in the remaster?

for all the ones interested I have made available a download ZIP of pre-configured Quakespasm quake port in order for people to enjoy Quake in modern high-resolutions but with all "fancy" visual options disabled to preserve the looks and specially color saturation of original game, without having to sacrifice high-resolution sharpness for it... also disabled Mip Mapping, you don't need it in such small maps (toggle On Off with hotkey)

this was in 2018, so maybe this is already patched up... but I have found a bug in Darkplaces quake port that would not allow me to finish a map because I key would spawn under the ground and could not grab it... Just something to be aware of... Since I've switched to Quakespasm, no issues... And better CPU performance too... I remember being able to play Arcane Dimensions (huge maps) in Quakespasm in a dual core laptop no problem

Oh man this takes me back to my childhood with ultimate jump scares and my nerves on high alert! I definitely wasn’t any good at the game but I absolutely loved the rush!

This is like Doom with PS1 Graphics, which are both in the same universe

The PS and XBOX versions are so different. The biggest thing for me is the movement of my gun. The console version has no movement and looks like I’m just floating around. Complete immersion killer!

I remember being about 5 years old and sitting on my dads knee whilst he played this, never once scared me either! Always liked it when he got one of the dogs 😂

Amazing game still one of the best even in 2022, addicting and if you wanna practice first person shooters there is not better than this game.

don't know if it's me, but I think doom and quake are classic like mozart and beethoven or the beatles and the eagles, so everything comes after are just attempt to imitate them but they will always be clone of the very original and not that fun and beautiful at the same time even if now they got so many tools that makes the result easier to achieve (or perhaps that is the problem)

Ah those sound effects bring back memories.

As much as I love some of the older cod games and modern games in general, nothing will fascinate me more than the 90’s run and gun style. Doom and Quake hold my highest respect.

Games terrifying. Love it and the art style and sound. Music is haunting and gives the feel of misery and hopelessness.
