Why Do Pictures in Email Sometimes Show as Attachments, and Sometimes in the Message?

Thank you so much. Now a little less confused why my attachments appear as images while other appeared with a pdf handles. How to solve the issue from sender’s perspective?

Great video, lots of useful information. I have a question that may be related to the topic. I am using Earthlink Webmail on a PC running Win-10. When I receive an image attached to an email as a separate file, I am directed to "save as". I would like to just open the image by clicking on the attachment filename. Is that a function of my email client, or my operating system.
