They recorded the studio version of this song in 20 minutes of studio time. They went through the song twice and then Jimi played a couple guitar parts on top. It was a #3 single 2 weeks later

As a lifelong musician, drums was my 1st instrument, but when I saw Jimi on my 14th birthday (6-22-69) @ Devonshire Downs, Granada Hills Ca. (which is on video) I realized "I'm suppose to be in front of the stage" & have been ever since. Thanks Jimi. See you in heaven.

You can scroll down and not see thumbs down for a long stretch. I gave up. That says a lot. There is gentleness and a sort of surreal melancholy to this track and, really, when you speak of Hendrix, you have to mention Dylan, who he idolized. He may have been the only one who did something new with what that other master loosed on the world.

For a long time I didn't really know Jimi could do ballads but he did well. Had he lived past 1970 he would have had to make some changes since music changes all the time but he would have done fine.

How stupid was that camera work! Jimi is playing the wonderful solo to this song and the cameraman is focused on the bass - so annoying!.

And it’s not lip sync. No one ever really sounded live like they did in the studio releases. Unless of course they lip synced. Then it was the studio release.

It’s just the way television was back then. They almost always focused on the lead singers. Guitar work was still classified as filler. Especially Rock n Roll.
