A "jump cut" is an abrupt and noticeable edit in a film or video where two sequential shots of the same subject are taken from slightly different camera angles, positions, or zoom levels. This results in a jarring visual discontinuity that can disrupt the flow of a scene. Jump cuts are often considered a mistake in traditional filmmaking because they can be distracting and take the viewer out of the narrative.
However, in some cases, filmmakers intentionally use jump cuts as a stylistic choice to convey a sense of disorientation, the passage of time, or to create a unique visual effect. It's more commonly seen in experimental or avant-garde filmmaking.
An "extreme close-up" (ECU) is a cinematography technique where the camera captures a very close view of a subject, often showing only a specific part of their face or an object in great detail. This type of shot is used to emphasize details, emotions, or specific elements, providing a sense of intimacy or significance. Extreme close-ups are commonly employed in filmmaking to convey a character's emotions, show important objects, or create a strong visual impact.
ОтветитьA "cutaway" is a filmmaking and editing technique where the camera briefly switches to a different shot or scene, often unrelated to the main action, before returning to the original scene. Cutaways are used for various purposes, including providing additional context, emphasizing details, or creating pacing and rhythm in a film. They can also be used to cover continuity errors or to add visual interest to a sequence.
ОтветитьA "Point of View" (POV) shot in filmmaking is a technique where the camera is positioned and angled to show the audience what a character in the film is seeing from their perspective. This can help the audience to connect more intimately with the character and experience the story from their viewpoint. It's a powerful tool for immersing viewers in the narrative and can be used to convey a character's emotions, reactions, and interactions with their environment or other characters.
ОтветитьA reaction shot is a filmmaking technique where the camera captures the facial expression or emotional response of a character in response to something happening off-screen. It's often used to convey a character's thoughts, feelings, or surprise to the audience.

ОтветитьThe opening scene from Jurassic park - the lost world. J and L cut in one when it goes from the mother screaming to Ian yawning in the subway. The screening of the subway trains wheels and the mothers scream are merged together and both can be heard in both scenes. It’s amazing!

ОтветитьHow can I do iris effect in premiere pro like in Boogie nights
ОтветитьAmazing video.
ОтветитьAs a solo creative, I don't care what the name of the cut is, I just edit however my imagination leads. But I appreciate the value in being able to precisely describe what is required to other professionals in a multi-person crew. Also having labels for what you do lends credibility when discussing budgets with clients.
Ответитьin terms of fair use of footage, is this video considered teaching?
ОтветитьThank you for this!!
ОтветитьJust a quick memo memo that the sound cuts out at 4 minutes and 27 seconds in you might want to fix that!!😡
